SSAA Inc. is calling out misinformation published by the Australia Institute in its latest firearms report, warning that inflammatory claims about Australia’s shooting community are contributing to a dangerous public environment. SSAA CEO Tom Kenyon said the report contains serious flaws, misleading language and unsupported claims about firearm owners and shooting clubs. The Association has also revealed that following previous media coverage involving the Australia Institute, staff across two SSAA offices received an email threatening violence. “Our members are families, farmers, conservationists and athletes in local community clubs,” Mr Kenyon said. SSAA is calling for responsible, evidence-based discussion about firearms policy in Australia — not rhetoric that risks targeting ordinary Australians. Do licensed firearms owners count as enough of a minority?

I will make it clear for #auspol and #politas media that I am not calling for watering down of firearms laws nor have I ever. I will not tolerate any suggestion that this is or has been the case ever!

They can do this by ensuring that the people (gun licence holders) who have always been trusted to own these firearms can continue to do so by actually being able to obtain the appropriate category licence for them.

We're constantly being told that these gun law changes are not about punishing responsible, law-abiding firearms users - so it's time for the politicians making that claim to back it up.

We are officially demanding that Australian State & Territory Governments begin issuing Category C firearms licences for hunters, target shooters, and volunteer pest controllers.
