The job of the chair of the Council's Budget Committee is to propose a Substitute Budget. I'll propose a rate increase slightly higher than the Mayor's - $1.066. For a $250,000 home, that's less than $3.50 per month different than what the Mayor proposed. mendesfornashville.com/news/final-sub…

Today's protest was peaceful and unified. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 We witnessed white people defacing public property while marching and told them to stop. The people now attempting to set fire to the Metro Courthouse right now are NOT associated with today's peaceful protest rally. It ain't us.

@GovBillLee You need to be ordering a state-wide shelter in place! Please consider how your waiting is only going to harm the medical folks you’re praising here. Take action!!!

An incredible amount of support continues to be shown to our city. In just 36 hours, @CFMT has received $2,127,674,70. Thank you to the @Titans for donating $1 million and the @NFLFoundation for donating $250,000. Thank you to all who have donated so far. #NashvilleStrong

@zulfat4council ...of more revenue for the city, as well as showing the ways this current system of Property Taxes is inequitable.

As we prepare for another budget process this spring, it is important to remember that the $ to fund MNPS exists in Nashville. It comes down to whether or not the Council is able to find & direct it towards MNPS. Thanks @zulfat4council for explaining a possible source... (1/2)

Tennessee is going to spend millions on vouchers, but has cut summer reading programs. Profit over children.
Joey Hassell@hassell_joey

It was confirmed yesterday by @TNedu’s @SchwinnTeach that @ReadtobeReadyTN was not funded. Summer literacy programs for 2020 w/ #R2BR will not exist. This presents a problem. @tnhousegop @TNDemocrats @TNSenateDems @tnsenategop We fund #ESAs but end summer reading. Why?!? @

Y’all are experts at this by now, but give your council member a call and remind them that full funding is possible!

CM Barkley Allen wants to know what makes it into the budget if district doesn't get $76.7. Henson says with Briley budget, it'd fund 3 percent for employees and that's it- no textbooks, no SEL initiatives, no bonus pay for bus drivers.

CM @bedne says he is concerned about Ed #voucher targeted at MNPS and Shelby. He wants to know cost to district and if that's been analyzed. ESA program is scheduled for 2021. Henson said district is seeking guidance still from state. "We don't have solid answers."

On bringing any employees making less than $15 an hour, the district would need an extra $5.199 million. Would impact ~1600 employees. Allemployees would be eligible for step raise under budget proposal. Increase to $15 for eligible employees would be on avg 15.4% increase
