@DrCatello I'd recommend the work of Gabriel Tarde, one of the former critical criminologists and critiques of the Positivist school. He actually looks at crime as an action, but this doesn't necessarily mean that one cannot relate it to the realm of politics and history.

The study of the causes of crime (to which you try to contribute) is doomed to fail not because the causes of crime are too complex but because is predicated on fatal misunderstanding: that crime can be studied naturalistically as if it were an action and not an infraction 5/6

hi Evelyn, it's hard to be precise on Twitter/X but, you're right, I'm using the label 'positivist' in a specific way here. What I have in mind when I say 'positivist criminology' is the kind of criminology that rests entirely on a myth: the myth of criminal behaviour 1/6

@DrCatello First, I wouldn’t agree with the description of RRM as in any way a positivist theory of crime. My firm belief is that any positivism (biological, psyhoclogical, or environmental) is dangerous and ultimately constitutes a poor explanation of crime.

@SidotiCosimo Per quanto riguarda i medici, hanno da sempre dovuto occuparsi delle cause e degli effetti degli “eccessi”, come lei li chiama. A molte persone, ancor oggi, salvano la pelle, ad altre riducono i danni, ad altre ancora le sofferenze. Spesso non possono fare di più.

@RiccardoGatti il campo medico si appropriasse di questo argomento, la dipendenza non era altro che un eccesso e non esistevano "epidemie"... poi come se il mio cervello durante l'assunzione di droghe non fosse influenzato dalla legalità o meno della sostanza assunta...

@RiccardoGatti @meccanismo Certo, ne ero consapevole. Penso, però, che sia utile riconoscere la dipendenza anche come un processo comportamentale che dipende dal contesto e circostanze in cui emerge, e non come una malattia e/o risultato di una sostanza.

@SidotiCosimo @meccanismo Senz’altro da 40 anni mi occupo di dipendenze patologiche e sono un medico. Penso che se migliaia di persone dipendenti o meno da droghe iniziano a morire per strada, come negli USA, non basta modificare le leggi ma occorrono interventi sociali e sanitari per cercare dí evitarlo.

@meccanismo Purtroppo, oltreoceano come da noi, si affrontano i problemi, solo dopo che generano emergenze gravi. Forse, semplicemente, non si sa cosa fare per risolverli, preventivamente, mentre, opposte correnti di pensiero, si scontrano, senza analizzarli e senza ascoltarsi: prima e dopo.
