More Aethelfrith—His summer residence at Ad Gefrin — later called Yeavering. He built an amphitheater here that could seat 150 people. This site is unbelievable.

Ad Gefrin Museum & Distillery. Opened in March of ‘23 and it’s a truly immersive experience. The last is a shield boss discovered at the Ad Gefrin site.

I can’t stop calling Northumberland “Northumbria” just like I can’t stop calling Dumfries & Galloway “The Kingdom of Rheged.” Also, the locals sound like Jon Snow, well played, George RR Martin.

At Bamburgh Castle —known by fans of THE LAST KINGDOM as the ancestral fort of Uhtred son of Uhtred. . But soon you’ll know Bamburgh as the 6th century base of Aethelfrith, one of history’s true baddies. I’m loving following in his footsteps for The Lost Queen series.
