Flower pressing is an act of amnesty. Age 8, I pressed roses for my cloth dolls, lilies, then, at 21, for the daughter I never met. These days I press do-not-pick-me wildflowers every time legal systems fail me; a quiet, vengeful protest.

Today, I have paid off my extortionate library fines. The possibilities. The range. The whoosh sound of my brain and heart fattening in dimensions. An attic that will house bold, wry, tender, plaintive, dark poetic myth.
