Somtochukwu Maduagwu is trending because Sommie the 29yo Arise TV news anchor passed away yesterday after a robbery attack, police no-show and hospital reluctancy. — Two people died. There are two stories around the incident. Apparently, 15+ armed robbers attacked the luxurious mini estate in Katampe Abuja, and successfully robbed all the houses within. When the robbery started, they called the nigerian police, they didn’t respond until every apartments in the estate had been robbed. — They came later.. An armed security guard, Barnabas, tried to take them, but they suppressed him, he got shot and lost a lot of blood. While it’s still unclear the exact cause of Sommie’s death. Some are saying, she somehow fell off three storey building and landed unconscious and injured. When police arrived they asked the police to take her to the clinic, police allegedly said they didn’t have fuel. Somehow they successfully got her to a hospital, yet they refused to treat her, instead demanding an ID Card and other documents. Amidst the chaos, she died. Barnabas also died. While it’s unclear whether she (Sommie) was shot or she fell off three stories. A constant in the story is, the police didn’t show up and the hospital refused to treat them. Sommie whose mother is a British Citizen, choose returning to Nigeria to pursue a career in media and consultancy and empower youths in her way. This December was supposed to be her wedding, just in time for her 30th birthday. But fate said no. Now old tweets from last month of Sommie praying for Nigeria not to happen to herself or anyone, are going viral, with Nigerians again, demanding an end to insecurity. The ambience on Arise TV this morning has been described as, cold. A witness and victim of the incident Sani Yusuf, said he was the first to be robbed and it was a traumatizing sight, but he’s not ready to talk about what happened, maybe until later. However, folks in Abuja are confirming that the robbery has increased and at times, the robbers move in squad of 15-20+ men. And they allegedly rob the University Of Abuja almost every week, despite the institution sandwiched between two Army Barracks within 5mins range. Sommie was briefly in UK last month.. before returning to her unfortunate demise. Nigerians are saying she’s another victim of a dysfunctional society, which she could have avoided. This story will certainly be updated. •• Elections? @Citizenmonitors have used tech to solve the transparency problem in Nigerian elections.. lockdown your polling unit on citizenmonitors.com for full surveillance from Polling Units to Collation Centres.
