@itsmudaud That's a great point - Two key aspects contribute to centromere diversity: intact inheritance (different maternal & paternal haps) + rapid evolution/changes. But I agree, our work points to not being as different as they seem... Looking forward to see centromere parodoxes unfold!

Cool stuff. But it's surprising for me to learn that centromeres are very diverse between individuals and haplotypes. I thought they would be highly conserved since they have basically the same function. The Centromere Paradox
