This week we are commemorating the King of Ska, Desmond Dekker, 20 years on from his passing. Dekker's influence on ska and reggae remains as powerful as ever. As one of Jamaica’s first global music stars, he helped bring the sound of Jamaican music to audiences worldwide.

Today is the 102nd arrival date of Sun Ra Arkestra Director Maestro Legend Marshall Belford Allen - 25th may 1924 - He joined the Arkestra in 1958 and has led the band since 1993. Happy Birthday with space age celebrations

King Crimson - The ConstruKction of Light Il 23 maggio del 2000 i King Crimson (Belew Gunn Fripp e Mastellotto) pubblicano per la Virgin Music il lp The ConstruKction of Light dodicesimo disco in studio della storica prog band inglese. Bill Bruford e Tony Levin hanno lasciato il gruppo alla fine degli anni novanta chiudendo l’esperienza del c.d. doppio trio. Fripp di dichiarò deluso dal disco che non sapeva cogliere la forza del gruppo che in effetti, a differenza di quanto spesso la band faceva, non aveva testato live i pezzi prima di registrarli. Nel 2019 verrà ripubblicato in una versione in cui Mastellotto suona esclusivamente una batteria acustica (nel disco invece aveva utilizzato soltanto una batteria elettronica). L’album ha raccolto recensioni del tutto contrastanti. E’ un disco dei king Crimson e questo può anche bastare. Finally AUv3 Soft Drummer by Lumbeat (Luis Martinez) just got a free update making it - finally, after 10 years! - an AUv3 plugin. Previously it only worked standalone or using the now-deprecated Inter-App-Audio. Best of all, it’s a free update for existing users. It doesn't have multi out though, which is really useful for adding separate fx to different drum sounds while using less cpu than loading multiple instances of a plugin. I heard back from Luis the developer on this point. He thinks most users don't care about this feature, and it seems unlikely to be added, at least not any time soon. I personally have seen over the years that many people do in fact care about multi out for drum apps, so I hope this does come, even though adding FX is slightly less important for these kinds of natural drum sounds than for electronic drums. For now, you’ll either have to use multiple instances of the plugin, or use the export feature which will give you separate wavs for kick, snare and percussion. For new users there’s a free 7-day trial, after which you can buy the app for $22.99. Note that there are other IAPs inside the app for extra drumkits. Those are not needed to use the app, I don’t have any of them and still find the app pretty versatile with the inbuilt kits. There are 2 $5 IAPs and 4 $4 IAPs. #lumbeat #AUv3

Bill Bruford Il 17 maggio del 1949 nasce William Scott "Bill" Bruford batterista talentuosissimo tra i grandi protagonisti della storia del rock. Inizia a suonare la batteria ammaliato dal jazz. Dopo la metà degli anni sessanta segue i The Noise in Italia come gruppo residente al Piper di Roma ma l’esperienza è del tutto negativa il gruppo non sa realmente suonare e Bruford torna in Inghilterra in autostop. Tornato in patria il il 7 giugno 1968 incontra Jon Anderson e Chris Squire che stanno cercando un batterista per i Mabel Greer's Toyshop che lo assoldano immediatamente per una serata. Bruford impressiona e riceve una serie di offerte da altri gruppi ma decide di rimanere con Anderson e Squire nella band che presto diventerà gli Yes. Con gli Yes pubblica i primi cinque dischi del gruppo, Yes (1969), Time and a Word (1970), The Yes Album (1971), Fragile (1971) e Close to the Edge (1972). Lascia la band anche per gli attriti con cui la stessa convive anche per le prorompenti personalità dei suoi membri. Registrato Close to the edge raccoglie l’invito di Robert Fripp che sta rimettendo in pista il Re Cremisi e si unisce ai King Crimson: “King Crimson was one of the only gigs for a rock drummer where you could play in 17/16 and still stay in decent hotels". Suona in Larks' Tongues in Aspic (1973), Starless and Bible Black (1974), Red (1974) e nell'album live USA (1975) poi Fripp decide di chiudere il capitolo. Segue un periodo in cui Bruford si adopera (non moltissimo e con esiti a suo dire non molto positivi) come turnista live o in studio, ad esempio con i Gong, con Squire (per Fish Out of Water) o Roy Harper. Sarà per un periodo percussionista nei Brand X di Collins e poi nei National Health per esibizioni live. Nel 1976 è dal vivo con i Genesis (riferirà che i Genesis, di cui non conosceva la musica, lo avevano sopportato per tutto il periodo). Nel 1978 pubblica il suo primo disco da solista Feels Good to Me, con Dave Stewart (tastiere), Jeff Berlin (basso) e Allan Holdsworth (chitarra) e nel corso dello stesso anno è nel primo disco degli Uk con Wetton. Negli anni ottanta è nella nuova reincarnazione dei King Crimson con cui pubblica Discipline (1981), Beat (1982) e Three of a Perfect Pair (1984) e poi suona con Moraz. Nella seconda metà degli anni ottanta fonda gli Earthworks salvo poi accogliere l’invito di Jon Anderson per essere il batterista degli Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe che confluiranno per negli Yes per Union, disco che a parere di Bruford è tra i peggiori della storia. Negli anni novanta torna nei King Crimson per la formazione a doppio trio e pubblica Vrooom (1994), Thrak (1995) e due album dal vivo, B'Boom: Live in Argentina (1995) e Thrakattak (1996). Nel gennaio del 2009 annuncia l’abbandono della scena musicale. Nel 2022 tuttavia si è unito al Pete Roth Trio, un gruppo jazz guidato dal chitarrista Pete Roth.
