@Komaniecki_R Used “homophonically” in my dissertation and auto correct broke my brain with its “homophobic ally” suggestion.

Just read the phrase "homophonic music" and my tired brain was like "omg why doesn't the music like gay ppl"

@Komaniecki_R I absolutely agree with this. We recently studied Halcyon Days by Melissa Dunphy @mormolyke and I am forever thankful for the very clear eighth rests (especially in polyphony) that shortened my rehearsal time significantly.

Also this is mostly a choir thing but if composers all specified where they wanted their final consonants we could save soooooo much rehearsal time

I’m trying to figure out how many top-20 Billboard hits use an asymmetrical meter/time signature. I *think* the answer is either 1 or 0, depending on how you count “Hey Ya” by OutKast. Am I missing any?

@aksocolofsky My college’s business office asks for a W-9 every time I purchase scores from an individual and request to pay the composer by check. According to them, it is how they access your tax ID. I always complete a W-9 when I have a conducting gig.

If I start Duolingo now can I learn enough Dutch to not burst out laughing in despair every time I see a word in Dutch before I'm in Amsterdam July 2

@RachelGainMusic I have been using “DMA in Choral Conducting (related field in Music Theory)” or something similar in my bios and am happy to teach an MT course every other semester as a result.

@emert_jessica Tip: I’m dairy sensitive. The lower the lactose in the dairy product, the more bearable the outcome. I almost newer react to (real) butter. When I crave dairy, grated (very) hard cheese like parmesan on my food hits the spot. Oat milk is queen. Mozzarella ruins my life. Good luck

If any other autistic people have good dairy free safe foods that they could suggest that would be amazing. I can't eat any of my old ones without taking medication. I'm also trying to find things that aren't vegan, which is especially harder

@Komaniecki_R The tone in the room matters. She happens to be a particularly inspiring, effective and loved teacher from what I remember. Seems to me that the singers are hyper focused, not scared — see only visible student marking their score. But yeah, guns do hit a nerve in the US.

Seeing some horrified reactions to this, and second guessing my initial read on this as a fun and goofy exercise in HS choir class. Curious to hear from any high school teachers.

I don't know who needs to hear this but you don’t have to give up your skinny jeans if you don’t want to. What’s in and what’s out is all a ploy to keep us all buying things until the planet is dead.

@emert_jessica 2 months! Wonderful. I spent some time yesterday being grateful for the addictions I’ve gained control over. You’re right. The cravings do stay there. But just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Before you know it, years of your life will have gone by! Keep going!

I'm two months clean today and it's been getting a lot harder recently. I'm really proud of myself but I'm really waiting for the day where it becomes easy. Addiction sucks cause in my experience any time I've gotten cravings, no matter how long it's been, it's always hard

Natalia Satina’s husband Sergei Rachmaninoff was a male composer who wrote quaint and pretty melodies of surprising complexity. He was one of the foremost gentlemen composers of his time. See how that’s weird? Okay good, stop writing about women like that
