I REJECT THE CONCOCTED RESULTS OF THE ADC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Primaries yesterday, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced. I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the Primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word. I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing in the hands of the ruling party. There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results. Then what makes us different from the others? The whole idea of the ADC was to give the Nigerian people a platform, to amplify the voices of the downtrodden, and make Nigeria a better place for everyone irrespective of backgrounds, ethnicity, or religion. A party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results, cannot be engaged in vote buying, writing of results, and other electoral malpractices that leads to the disenfranchisement of voters who are party members. PRESIDENT TINUBU ASSURES ON RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED VICTIMS IN OYO STATE, CONDEMNS REPORTED KILLING OF ABDUCTED TEACHER   President Bola Tinubu has condemned as barbaric the reported killing of one of the abducted teachers from the Esiele community in Oyo State, while the rescue operation is underway.   Bandits invaded the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State last Friday. They abducted staff, students, and pupils of Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School and L.A. Primary School.   Security operatives are working around the clock to rescue the victims and apprehend the bandits and their collaborators within the community.   President Tinubu sympathised with Governor Seyi Makinde, the government, and the people of Oyo State for the unfortunate incident and assured them that the federal government will collaborate with the state government to rescue the victims.   "I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. Our ancestors served as middlemen traders between Yoruba hinterland communities and the coastal regions. Since they also see themselves as business-oriented people, they try to draw parallels based on traits commonly associated with the Ijebu. The irony, however, is that they fail to understand that in Yoruba communities such as Ijebu Igbo, Igbo Ora, and many others, the word “Igbo” may share the same spelling as theirs, but it is not the same thing. Once pronounced with Yoruba intonation and phonetics, “Igbo” in names like Ijebu Igbo carries an entirely different meaning and identity. In our context, “Igbo” simply means “forest.” I honestly do not know what the word means in their own language, but it certainly does not carry the same meaning, nor is there any historical connection between us.
