That’s true. I have experienced that on Facebook (more than on Twitter/X). The north Indian right wing can’t digest the fact that Rama ordered deer meat for the rishis. Devotees of Hanuman would not accept that Hanuman never wrote a Ramayana that was better than Valmiki’s original. Many receive the information with disbelief that the Valmiki Ramayana nowhere mentions the Lakshmanarekha (and that this incident was introduced in the Bengali version, Krittibas Ramayan). Subscribers to Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas would not agree that Ravana actually mistreated Sita during her abduction, and there was no such entity as Chhaya Sita that fooled Ravana. The left cannot accept that banishing Sita was the best judgment coming from Rama as the king rather than as an ordinary husband. Dalits cannot accept that Valmiki was a son of Rishi Pracheta and hence a Brahmin, not somebody from today’s Scheduled Caste of Valmikis. They further refuse to accept that Ravana was a Brahmin, as that does not fit the narrative of Dalit persecution. Dalits and the left also do not accept the theory that Uttara Kanda was an afterthought and fabrication, as it robs them of the opportunity to castigate Rama for allegedly slaying Shambuka. Bengalis are startled to know that Valmiki was never Dasyu (dacoit) Ratnakara and that the robber-to-author story is folklore. Feminists do not accept the explanation that if Lakshmana had not defaced Surpanakha, she would have devoured Sita. The list of protestors against the original writer is endless.
