Grand Seiko SBGA481 "Tokyo Lion." The dial is meant to represent the lion's mane. The opaline-color features a pattern inspired by the flowing mane of the majestic feline. The strongly angular case and lugs are "claw-like." However, the bottom of the case is curved for comfort with a see-through case back. Its sharp angles connecting flat surfaces proved a perfect canvas for the expression of Zaratsu polishing and contrasting hairline finishing. Each Grand Seiko has a story. A story of history, craftsmanship, and a deeper meaning tied to the Japanese culture. A reminder that it is important to take pride in what we do. To strive for excellence in our craft, and to constantly make improvements. The Japanese have a word for this, "Kaizen." A little Skeie history: My great grandfather Ole Skeie started the business in 1922. He is the dapper gentleman in the hat. George Skeie was my grandfather standing on the back right. I can't imagine what Eugene was like in 1922, but surviving the Great Depression is an enormous feat unto itself. George served as a medic in World War 2. After the war he went into the jewelry business with Ole. I am very proud of our family, and it makes me want to improve upon their legacy. The photo of the cowboys was for the opening of the YMCA in Eugene. It was a fundraiser.
