What is the massive gap in quality supposed to be here? Yes, I know, you're going to accuse me of being blind or whatever. But seriously. What are we actually talking about when we say these things? They don't appear, to me, to correspond to any clearly observable reality. And note that Peter Jackson actually updated a bunch of the CGI textures for the 4K release of LOTR (which I don't recall many people protesting), so this isn't even a fair comparison. Yet this still just looks like roughly comparable, high-quality CGI from the same era.

Everyone always talks about the Prequels like a different guy made them and imagine the Original Trilogy as a set of movies that don't actually exist

IIRC at one point in a behind-the-scenes video they're trying to figure out how this could possibly work, and Lucas goes, 'Well Yoda's a frog, so he would jump around a lot' like he's Aristotle laying out a syllogism.

Here's another good comparison between Luke's Episode VI outfit, the prequel Jedi outfits, and what Obi-Wan is wearing in Episode IV. You can see there are similarities between all three, but the prequel Jedi outfits have clearly taken some cues from Luke's Episode VI look, just as you'd expect.
