Hello RNA World! Ever wonder what's "talking to" your favorite transcript, but were too scared to ask? In our review in @CellReports, @FKHM and I highlight new RNA-focused tools for discovering RNA interactions across organizational scales. Checkit! tinyurl.com/ydn6e3ac

Ever wondered why we need respiratory supercomplexes? New findings from our lab, in collaboration with @LettsScience, show how a specialized supercomplex - the SC-XL - can help mitochondria overcome some respiratory defects & provide cardioprotective benefits. Studying #Microproteins (i.e. Brawnin) led to this amazing discovery, a testament to the power of small! cell.com/cell-metabolis…

Beyond thrilled to present our O-MAP—now *published* @naturemethods (!!!) O-MAP is a powerful new method for biochemically "dissecting" the subcellular microenvironment around an RNA of interest, using off-the-shelf parts and standard manipulations. 🧵 nature.com/articles/s4159…

My first op-ed is out! Starting my faculty career was challenging in many ways, and one of those is that I had a leadership job that I didn't expect and wasn't (really) prepared for. Thanks to @insidehighered for the chance to write about this and share some advice!

Career Advice | A Leadership Position We Aren’t Prepared For Faculty members who run a lab have a research job and a leadership job, but they are often only trained for one of those, @WUSTL's Jen Heemstra writes. bit.ly/3T7fTGb

Our lab’s first @chemcomm! We find that amidine-capped cysteine residues can be cleaved by trypsin to improve detection of tough-to-ID cys (e.g. resis found in very long sequences lacking K/R). Congrats to first author @SamioOfori and team! pubs.rsc.org/en/content/art…

If you have a leadership job, then you also have a kindness job. Yes, there is work to get done and goals to meet. But we also have a responsibility to leverage our authority and decision making capability to uphold human dignity.

How do intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) regulate protein function? Today in @MolecularCell, we show how the IDR of LSD1 acts as a fuzzy molecular switch to tune transcription factor interactions & control leukemia differentiation. (1/6) sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
