So I woke up this morning and saw this in my Alma mater secondary school group. Juliet was my class mate in secondary school and she is Uk with her husband and kids. This 👇🏾happened to her. @MTNNG @MTNza You guys do a lot of things and get away with it because the system plays in your favour. I hope one day a strategic inflection point will occur in this industry and make you guys completely irrelevant.

The real issue is that the "500 job openings" at Moniepoint do not exist. It's a popular corporate scam where you constantly recruit without actually hiring anyone, because showing a large number of job vacancies while advertising your aggressive recruitment campaign is a growth metric you display to investors. It shows that the company is "growing fast" which means they should invest more money. "We can't fill 500 job openings" in an absurdly deep job market like Nigeria is just a fintech bro performing for USD to locate him from whichever venture capital or private equity investor he's targeting. It's the same thing as when an NGO lawyer jumps on every trending human rights case without really achieving anything - it's a performance for the oyibo with USD to reward them. Motion without movement. Fake activity scam.

I pity those who don't currently have a skill 🚶. You will see different colors in life and to learn skill now Don cost not like before that even 10k was too much. Now Even 5k can't get you a good skill but you saw it was a big deal 4yrs ago. Now we are speaking from 100k upwards.

@NigeriaStories Everybody wants to hire a guru of 26 years with 5 years experience but no one is willing to train a fresh graduate of 21 years. So tell me exactly how the gurus are supposed to be made. Have you seen the university curriculum? A bunch of barbaric and inapplicable courses.

“I used to feel Nigerians are really bright. We have had over 500 vacancies since 2024, and we are still struggling to find Nigerians to fill those roles. They don’t meet global standards. I blame social media, yahoo & hook up culture..” ~ Moniepoint CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda says

@SnehUgo Out of everything I've read on this matter, this is the most wholesome summary of what is happening. When there are more people that are willing to take peanuts for design jobs because of their skill level than professionally skilled designers, this is the result.

“The design space is oversaturated.” “Graphic designers do not make good money in Nigeria.” “The design space is not valued.” Let’s discuss this. (Long post) Over the past few days, the design community has been dragging one or two persons. First, it was Moses Bliss and the whole conversation about how graphic designers are undervalued in Nigeria, How people talk down on the skill like it’s nothing serious. Then recently, there was another take from a frustrated guy, claiming that graphic designers can not buy cars, that designers are not successful or don’t make good money in Nigeria. Whether that was for engagement, a hot take, or just rage bait, I honestly don’t know. People also keep saying that the design space is oversaturated. Yes, it is. But let’s be honest, it’s not saturated with skilled designers. It’s saturated with half-baked ones. People who only know tools but don’t understand design. People who don’t know the business side of it. People who can’t solve real problems but are already calling themselves designers. That’s the real issue. Here’s the part nobody wants to admit, many of the same designers complaining today helped create this problem. Not long ago, and even till now, there is this wave of free classes everywhere. “Join my design class.” “₦1K course.” “₦5K masterclass.” It became a cycle, free class today, paid class next week. It wasn’t about building solid designers. It was about making quick money from newbies. And that brought in hundreds, thousands of people. But only a very small percentage actually went deep, learned properly, and built something meaningful. The rest, just noise in the space. I myself also came in through one of those free classes too. There were hundreds of us. But how many actually took it seriously? Very few. The difference is some people decided to go deeper, to be intentional, to actually build with the skill. And once you do that, your perspective changes. You start seeing what’s actually possible. Because just like every other profession, design is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It is not fraud. It is not “Yahoo Yahoo.” You don’t just learn small tools today and expect big money tomorrow. You have to actually grow in it, learn properly, understand it, pick a niche, and build over time. I started with ₦1K, ₦5K, ₦10K jobs. Then I upskilled, added motion design and video editing to my skill set, which are all still under graphic design. Because design is broad. It’s not just flyers. There’s so much more you can grow into. So when people say design doesn’t pay, or designers are not valued, I just think, what did we expect? When you mass produce underprepared designers, price skills cheaply, and focus more on selling design to designers instead of solving real problems, what outcome were you expecting? Now the same space is complaining about saturation, low value, and lack of respect. WHAT AN IRONY! But the truth is, we contributed to it. The problem is not just saturation. It’s dilution. That’s all I’ll say for now. Would love to also hear your thoughts.

I came across four impressive Easter ads and social media designs instead, and these are my picks with reasons for each! 1 : @Cafeonenig -I love how this design creatively ties a coffee bean to Easter by carving a cross into it, making the spiritual message feel fresh and unique for Cafe One. The scattered beans and the phrase "One seed fell, many were raised" really bring out a clever connection between resurrection and coffee that I haven’t seen before. 2: @PiggyBankNG I chose this design by Piggyvest because it’s an original creation for their brand, ensuring it’s safe to share without copyright issues. Its clever depiction of a savings app interface with "Target: Eternal Life" and "8 Billion Souls Saved" adds a witty, modern twist to Easter’s message of salvation that really stands out. 3: @David_Dxc_ I picked this design by David because it feels like an original creation. I love how the newspaper headline "He is Risen" with the empty tomb image, paired with elegant jewelry, creates a luxurious yet meaningful Easter message! 4: @MartinKesene This design is super creative because it transforms the Easter story into a data driven concept, with "Query Complete!" and a magnifying glass revealing an empty tomb, linking resurrection to a tech savvy narrative. The playful text like "TOMB=EMPTY, STATUS=HE IS RISEN" adds a clever, modern twist that makes the message unexpected!
