1. No more ‘Section 21’ evictions. YES! Landlords can no longer kick you out without a valid reason once your current notice expires. You’ll have more security, and evictions will now require a specific legal ground like wanting to sell or move back in. 2. Rolling Tenancies Fixed-term contracts are ending. All tenancies will become ‘periodic’ (rolling) from day one, meaning there's no set end date. This gives you the flexibility to leave by giving 2 months’ notice at any time, rather than being locked in for a year. 3. Rent Increases Fairer rules on rent hikes. Landlords can only increase your rent once a year and must give you at least 2 months' notice. You’ll also have the right to challenge any "above market" increases through a tribunal without fear of a revenge eviction. 4. Rental Bidding There will be a ban on ‘Rental Bidding Wars’. Landlords and agents must now list a specific asking price and are legally banned from accepting offers above that price. This stops the "highest bidder" culture that has been driving up prices in popular areas. 5. Upfront Payments Again. No Limits on rent in advance. Yeye landlords can no longer ask for more than one month’s rent upfront. This lowers the massive "barrier to entry" cost that often stops people esp new immigrants and low earners, from moving into a new home. 6. Pets & Discrimination Rights to pets and no more ‘DSS’ bans. You now have a legal right to request a pet, and landlords cannot "unreasonably" say no. It’s also now illegal for landlords to flat-out refuse tenants just because they have children or receive benefits. 7. The Paperwork The mandatory Information Sheet. By May 31st, your landlord must give you an official government info sheet explaining these new rights. If they don't, they can be fined up to £7,000, so keep an eye on your inbox or letterbox. The idea is just to balance the scores between Tenants and Landlords typically.

It has been 6 Months since I moved back from the UK, to Nigeria and let me tell you the honest truth… living in Nigeria will humble you and teach you at the same time. First of all, poor customer service has been normalised. The attitude, the delays, the lack of apology. Sometimes you will be looking at the person like “are you not meant to be serving me?” 😅 But it is so common that people don’t even react anymore. When you finally see good customer service, you will be shocked. Things spoil easily here. Light issue affects everything. Appliances don’t last the way you expect. Food can spoil quickly if you are not careful. In Nigeria, you don’t buy one of anything. You buy backup for your backup. Because if one fails, what is your plan B? Hyperinflation is real. Something you bought last month has increased this month. Budgeting is not straightforward. You have to be flexible. If you are too rigid with money here, you will just be stressing yourself. Another thing is the cultural shift. Nigeria is not the Nigeria we grew up in. Everything feels global now. The way people dress, talk, spend money. Social media has increased pressure. Everybody wants to look soft and successful. One thing that surprised me is that I expected people to be angrier because of the economy. I thought there would be more visible frustration. But Nigerians? Weddings are still loud. Restaurants are still full. Clubs are still packed. People are still outside. The resilience is different. Tipping culture is strong too. Car washers at hotels, attendants, gate men. If you’re not ready to tip, you will look somehow. It is almost expected in certain spaces. And the balling culture is loud. Luxury cars everywhere. Big spending. But if you look deeper, you will realise not everybody you see is actually rich. Sometimes it is just lifestyle packaging. Now let us talk about comfort. If you want steady generator, constant AC, security, good water, domestic help, good schools, quality food… one million naira can disappear quickly. Upper middle class lifestyle in Nigeria is expensive. Comfort is not cheap here. Cutting costs is a real skill. You have to know where to splurge and where to manage. You are literally paying for convenience. Paying to avoid stress. Six months later, this is my honest take. Nigeria is not easy. It is chaotic. But it is alive. It is vibrant. And if you have money and structure, you can create your own comfort. Cc: Nkemdilim Melissa

A typical day in the UK You wake up in a house you paid tax to buy, then pay council tax every month to live in. You turn on the TV, which is taxed & you pay to watch it You drive a heavily taxed car, fill it with taxed petrol, pay insurance tax & congestion charges, to go to work Where you pay 50% income to tax & NI (tax) You buy something & it’s 20% VAT after you just paid 50% to earn it. You want a holiday? Airport & flight & hotel taxes Cigarettes & alcohol are taxed & then when you die, 40% inheritance tax No wonder everyone is leaving for Dubai

You were broke and she was broke as well. She could only afford to enter keke which means she was in the same social class as you. Buy you're thanking her for choosing you and staying with you when you were broke whereas you were the one feeding her then and paying her bills? You saw her on an expensive wig and iPhone, in your mind, she's a big girl? Ain't these common material commodities often seen in an average Nigerian woman who most don't have a job but they got it from their hookup business or was sponsored by a man? At the end of the day, she only stayed with you because you were her best option at the time, but in his mind, he's the less she settled for. Hence doing him a favor by dating him. An average Nigerian man has low self-esteem and think less of himself which is why they think a woman choosing to date them when they were broke is them doing him a favor. The same woman most of them will still feed, pay their tfare and other bills. Tomorrow, she'll go on a podcast and say she made him the successful man that he is today whereas her father is still a poor man till date and she hasn't made him successful but only able to take care of him to some extent because she was fortunate enough to find grace in a man's bright future. Nigerian men too mumu.
