ORL Shot Profile Games 1-4 (w/ Franz): 53.8 loc eFG% (6th out of 16) 35.7% Rim Freq.

@SlimeADC @Cuteghost_0725 @draymottishaw the issue is that he's not a good rim protector as a center, which necessitates a double big lineup, and it sort of limits his role/archetype to situational double big lineups entirely. i also worry that he doesnt shoot enough threes to make running double big lineups worth it

Few *prospects* are ever as good as Hannes Steinbach when it comes to offensive rebounding metrics, especially at his age. If you knew about Steinbach before Washington, you knew that he was a monster on both ends of the glass.
Offensive rebounding is such an underrated skill to have because, well, your team gets more possessions.
Not only does Hannes have a nose for the basketball, his efficiency has been through the roof so far for not being considered as a lob threat/dunk guy. His touch around the glass, and improved shooting at the FT line, is such a promising indicator of efficiency at the next level. His oreb & scramble playtype (shots off a rebound, inculding kick outs for 3) is above D1 league average (0.89 pts/play) at 1.30 pts/play and is his most used offensive playtypes, via Hoop Explorer.
I haven't even mentioned his feel/passing yet. In the German league he was above a 1.0 a:to, with usage. A:TO is a ceiling raiser for big men and Hannes has started off the college season with a 1.3 a:to, on a relatively inefficient Washington team.
There are just so many things to love about Steinbach and I could go on and on; he's putting up some promising numbers, and I think he's a safer bet than some think. If you're worried about the vertical rim protection (which is valid), I am optimistic that Hannes can thrive in a double big lineup, as he is now with Kepnang & Sommerville.

@ARKNDJL @Cuteghost_0725 @draymottishaw I think saying "he can't defend" is a bit too harsh in this case. Sure he is not a very good shotblocker since he is a bit of a tweener on D, but he has quick feet and is a good team defender. Especially in double big lineups you can easily mask his deficiencies.

@Cuteghost_0725 @draymottishaw How high can the ceiling be for a big that can't defend
