- 7 of the Rockets 3PA were big advantage shots (> 6 foot closeout) - 27 of their 44 3PA were catch and shoot - recreated odds of missing 27 in a row, given quality, was ~ 1 in 72,000. This reiterates exactly what my OP says - Uncontested/Catch and shoot 3’s are king. Poor shot quality + massive outlier. Each play is independent of the last. Superstition/playing the odds, etc. have nothing to do with next play mentality or analytics themselves.

One of the big misconceptions about analytics is 3PA. Most fans (and not accusing OP of this line of thinking) are in an echo chamber that shooting 3’s = analytics. This is categorically false. Total 3PA have never correlated to winning, regardless of era, on a league level. The correlation is r ~ 0.12 (Pearson’s r shows linear strength between 2 variables in stats, the closer to 0, the less correlation.) Catch and shoot 3’s and 3PM have a strong correlation because they are indicative of breaking down the defense, paint touches and ball reversals. Overall strong scheme creation.
