The Spartans won the elite guard of Xerxes, the "Immortals", with an interesting trick. When they saw the enemy, they would turn and run backward, feigning panic. The Persians, excited and shouting, pursued them. Suddenly, a signal was given, and the Spartans abruptly stopped, turned, and slaughtered the Persians.
