I regularly meet with farmers who hand me a balance sheet showing significant working capital losses. Yet they tell me they “made money.”
Why? Because they revalued machinery higher. Because land values increased. Because equity went up on paper.
But here is the truth: You only get to keep the equipment if you have working capital. Once working capital is gone, the farm stops. The equipment gets sold to pay operating debt. And the illusion of profitability disappears overnight.
Yes, equity can bail you out for a time. But it also hides real management and profitability problems that are quietly getting worse.

@Cetter15 We just got back from our annual summer trek to Michigan. Starting from just north of Ft Wayne all the way south to about Sidney, lots of corn rolled and had that silver cast to it. That area went from too wet to too dry in about a weeks time!

Rainfall rates could exceed 1" per hour today. Storms may slow down or go over the same area many times, causing isolated flash flooding. Rainfall totals will be highly variable; most locations that have storms will get up to 0.5" but localized amounts of 1-3"+ will be possible.
