I regularly meet with farmers who hand me a balance sheet showing significant working capital losses. Yet they tell me they “made money.” Why? Because they revalued machinery higher. Because land values increased. Because equity went up on paper. But here is the truth: You only get to keep the equipment if you have working capital. Once working capital is gone, the farm stops. The equipment gets sold to pay operating debt. And the illusion of profitability disappears overnight. Yes, equity can bail you out for a time. But it also hides real management and profitability problems that are quietly getting worse.

Average corn yields in Ohio were a #pftour25 record of 185.69 bu/acre, narrowly beating 2021's high of 185.06. Soybean pod counts of 1287.28 were up nearly 5% on the year, the tour's highest average for Ohio since 2014.

2 plus inches of rain since Friday. We are looking better. Lot of corn to tassel in the area in the next week. We had a planting window from the last week of April until memorial day

At 86% good/excellent, Iowa (the top US #corn producing state) is now looking at their best #corn ratings at this time since 1994. At the national level, US #corn ratings are their best at this time since 2018, rising 1% week-on-week to 74% G/E. #oatt

#Corn prices are down because trader yield models are rising. Here's a look at mine. I've heard others higher. It's still early, with a lot of growing season ahead, but this is what traders are focused on now. #oatt

@Cetter15 We just got back from our annual summer trek to Michigan. Starting from just north of Ft Wayne all the way south to about Sidney, lots of corn rolled and had that silver cast to it. That area went from too wet to too dry in about a weeks time!

A higher Friday close. Been a while. Let's hope Monday is more of the same. Biggest report day of the year. After this report the only thing we trade is weather for the next 75 days.
