@mjvalentour That's the spirit! Also indie/small presses and lit agents aren't opposite. I (Millie) have an agent and we sold 2 of my books to indie presses. Some manuscripts are better suited for big 5 and others for indies. It's all about finding the best path for you and the book.

#smallpitch really opened my eyes to querying small presses. I'm still searching for a #litagent, but I'm not going to limit myself in trying to find the right home for my book(s). #amquerying #optimistic

Finally done! This was an incredible #smallpitch event. Every author should be proud of their hard work. We are looking forward to the next round of queries.

The #SmallPitch request window is now OVER. - If you received a request: congrats! Don't forget to research the publisher. A request isn't a summon. - If you didn't receive one: no luck this time, but we'll be back in July, and cold submissions are still here in the meantime.

@SydnyeWhite @mjvalentour I'm wondering, too. Requests are coming, so I was expecting people to shout about them here and on Bsky, but it's been quiet. I haven't compared numbers yet with our last events, but perhaps we have fewer requests, or people aren't posting as much about it for reasons 🤔

@mjvalentour I'm wondering why there have been so few posts about hearing from presses. Am I in the wrong place to hear about the action?

Any presses participating in #smallpitch still contemplating the database and sending requests tomorrow, or is that all she wrote? Asking for a friend 🫠

@mjvalentour ~10 presses haven't submitted any requests at all! Hopefully they'll come in tonight and tomorrow.

I didn’t know about #smallpitch 😩😭 and now I have MAJOR FOMO.

We're halfway through reading the manuscripts on offer through @Small_Pitch, and there are so many intriguing ones! We're having to winnow down our list, so if you get a request from us, know that you really stood out from a great pack! #SmallPitch

@AuthorJannyB This is the request window for publishers to browse submitted pitches. The window to submit pitches as an author was Monday/Tuesday.

@elenavanpeborgh Ah that's no big deal! Which is why I don't ask people to pay attention. I'm reviewing pitches anyway and it takes me one second to remove while glancing.

@Small_Pitch I think it might be the form. When I entered my text it also looked like I had extra space before and after. I checked it 2-3 times if I hadn't accidentally entered spaces or lines. The borders of the text box were weird (or even invisible)

@elenavanpeborgh To be honest I start before the submission window closes. This saves me time on Wednesday! And yes most people behaved. I noticed only one breach of rules, and very few tech glitch duplicates (maybe 2 or 3?). So it was mostly cleaning extra spaces and title formatting.

@Small_Pitch Thank you so much for your openness and answer! I hope everyone all behaved. But since it took less time than expected, I assume it all went smoothly.

@elenavanpeborgh Re: number 3, I don't know why but some people add multiple blank lines after their pitch in the form. Probably just a mistake or copy/paste issue. It results in extra space on the database between the pitch and the tags. I manually delete it as I scan the pitches.

@elenavanpeborgh That last one has never happened so far. But you never know so I still glance at all the pitches to make sure they're actual book pitches and not a troll that got lost on the Internet.
