In celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we honor the innovators, explorers, and changemakers whose contributions to STEM have expanded human understanding, strengthened communities, and shaped the future of our world. Dr. Chien-Shiung Wu, pioneering physicist whose groundbreaking experimental work transformed modern nuclear physics, exemplifies the lasting impact of scientific discovery and fearless innovation. Often called the “First Lady of Physics,” Dr. Wu’s research on beta decay challenged long-standing scientific assumptions and helped reshape the understanding of fundamental particles and forces. A professor at Columbia University and contributor to the Manhattan Project during World War II, Dr. Wu played a critical role in advancing nuclear science and experimental physics at a time when women and Asian Americans were significantly underrepresented in STEM fields. Her work not only advanced scientific understanding, but also demonstrated the importance of precision, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity in driving discovery and innovation. Throughout her career, Dr. Wu remained a strong advocate for education, equity, and expanding opportunities for women in science. Her leadership and groundbreaking research helped pave the way for future generations of scientists while reinforcing the importance of representation and inclusion within STEM disciplines. Today, her legacy continues to inspire students, educators, researchers, and innovators around the world to challenge assumptions, pursue discovery, and push the boundaries of what is possible. Advancing the future of science requires curiosity, courage, and a commitment to expanding human understanding. Dr. Wu’s impact reminds us that transformative breakthroughs often begin with the willingness to question convention and explore new possibilities. #AAPIHeritageMonth #WomenInSTEM #Physics #NuclearPhysics #ScientificDiscovery #STEMEducation #Innovation #FutureOfSTEM Columbia University Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center APS Physics Brookhaven National Laboratory Manhattan Project National Historical Park

Choosing between a magnet school and a charter school can feel like a big decision. But the most important question is not the label. It is the learning experience. hubs.la/Q04h2gjf0 Both school types offer strong opportunities, but what truly matters is how students engage with STEM. Are they exploring, building, and solving real-world challenges? Are they developing the skills to think critically, collaborate, and adapt in a rapidly changing world? Because the future is evolving, and many of the careers students will enter do not yet exist. That is why STEM learning must go beyond content and focus on building the skills and mindset students need to navigate anything that comes next. The most impactful environments help students develop a strong STEM identity. The belief that they belong, can master challenges, and that their ideas matter.
