Where did the debate of Korra being a Mary sue come from? I'm new to the fanbase, so I don't know if maybe the creators said a few years ago that she is Because I just looked up Mary sue in the dictionary and in the antonyms section I saw Korra 😂

@SkyriderXiii @AllAboutKorra This is a typical trap that some people fall into, thinking that being correct is the goal. The goal is to understand each other. Equating the definition or exact similarity to another bad character, doesn't make you right, it's just a rationalization for why you think I'm wrong.

@SkyriderXiii @AllAboutKorra There is no set definition for a Mary Sue. Mary Sue is a Star Trek fan fiction character which exemplified a lot of bad writing in particular ways. Korra doesn't fail because she's flawed, she fails because that's how the story is set up in order to contrive that outcome.

@ZephyrXBL @AllAboutKorra Because her growth is contrived. She was a failed character from the start. You know that she's fictional and suffers from writing issues, right? A lot of you defenders seem to be under some illusion that this is a real person.

@Smilomaniac @AllAboutKorra S1 and S2 she would go heard first into things. S2 she was the one who figured out Unalaq's plan. S3 and S4 she thought most of her decisions through and put the life of Kuvira before her own to save her. Putting quotes around "grow" is crazy.

@ZephyrXBL @AllAboutKorra Never watched the guy. The issues persist as the entire literally unravels around her in a contrived way, in part to make her look sympathetic. She "grows" in the face of people hating her, not from adversity, but from a failed reception.

@ZephyrXBL @AllAboutKorra I don't know who Tony is. People don't have to put their bias aside to make valid complaints. If anything, it makes it easier for us to discern what's exaggerated. Korra is an extremely disliked character for good reasons. Your premise is not reasonable.

@Smilomaniac @AllAboutKorra Ren was a Villain for majority of his story so it would be weird if he didn't do those things, also I don't remember Korra blaming anyone for getting manipulated by her uncle. Not to mention any flaw Korra had has been present in dozens of protagonists who get a pass.

For every waking minute to revolve around someone, then no character would ever fit this arbitrary definition. Her victimhood is contrived, the sympathy is demanded not earned. She is the 2nd biggest Mary Sue.

@JanowskiKsawery @AllAboutKorra Oh, that's a pretty good comparison. Both blame everyone but themselves, always complain and always make bad choices out of self interest, yet are somehow portrayed as sympathetic. That's not flawed character depth, that's shitty writing, so the person is spot on.

@SkyriderXiii @AllAboutKorra She reset the lineage of Avatars for her to be the new first. Even when she fucks up, it's still all about her. There is no misconception, people are extremely valid in hating the show and the character.

@AllAboutKorra Probaly from the misconception that her effortlessly bending Fire, Earth, and Water makes her a Mary Sue. Korra fails too much to be a Mary Sue. Her entire arc starts with her at a position of strength and then not knowing how to use it properly

@ZephyrXBL @AllAboutKorra So because people did long analysis videos, that means it's a lie? Korra had a lot to live up to and a lot of people hated it for many good reasons. It's that simple. A meal with shit in it is not about what parts aren't shit, it was always contaminated from the start.
