@FPLVillan @azzwhittaker Didn't have to be game ending, though. Brentford went down to 10 against us 2 weeks ago, scored, and made us look completely inept. After the injuries, this group just doesn't have it.

@azzwhittaker It’s shocking from Bailey. But it happened. It’s a goal losing mistake. Bizot’s actions in response to that mistake was a game ending mistake. Pretty simple

@NickLovesSpain The FEVE also takes about 6 days to get across northern Spain, at about 15,000th of the cost😄

Also striking, from outside, is Birmingham’s complete absence from any sort of national cultural relevance: no literature to speak of, no notable music for half a century. Edinburgh, or Liverpool, or Bristol or Belfast or Newcastle or Glasgow all have specific cultural resonances, but the second city may as well not exist.

I’m from Bham and the only other major city I’ve really experienced is London after moving here.Visited Manchester over Jan and had what felt like an incredibly stupid & embarrassing awakening to how significantly not shit other cities can be, genuinely changed a lot of my priors

@paddyjogorman Why do so many Irish people hate their own language? What sort of internalised colonialism is this

@growgardeners Recently moved to northern Spain. The place is teeming with life. In a short period of time have seen incredible things. We have bears and wolves, amazing birds of prey. Everything is either trying to eat you, eat your garden, or eat your house 😆

Spain has 36% tree cover. We have 12%, mostly Sitka Spruce. Cycling in N. Spain is bittersweet. It’s exhilarating to be surrounded by trees & to see the land is teeming with life but depressing to return to barren 🇮🇪 The wildflowers on this bridge would be sprayed back home🙈

The idea of eco-communities built as refuges from a fallen modern civilization, established on top of medieval monasteries built as refuges from a fallen Roman civilization, is blowing my mind right now. This is a novel waiting to be written.
The Last Farm@TheLastFarm

Found another another cool future commune/alternative university It’s a 20-bedroom, 43k sq ft former monastery founded in 1204 with 106-acres of grounds & vineyard in the south of France. Perhaps not the most climate resilient location, but still For a mere $5.8 million

@Leigh_Phillips Just to understand where you're coming from: At what point do you think Greenpeace were a noble organisation?

Greenpeace, once a noble organization that largely changed the world for the better, increasingly resembles Exxon, in that by now they very much know their product is deadly, but keep producing it anyway in order to maintain revenues.

The Nuclear Energy Summit happening in Brussels tomorrow is a distraction from real climate action. Nuclear power is too slow. Too expensive. Too dangerous. There's no time for #NuclearFairyTales. #NES2024

@Matthuber78 @Leigh_Phillips @jacobin I don't think the world works through simple majoritarian politics, nor that 6 billion are entirely dispossessed from commons. Depending on how we look at it, we are all interacting all the time with various commons. To ignore this loses much economic colour

@Matthuber78 @Leigh_Phillips @jacobin displacement of communities but that paragraph is primarily discussing ecological implications of Green Revolution which are nowhere to be seen. I added a note to be fair to you guys. 3) I would love to see a deeper discussion beyond unions where you talk about commoning.

@SmithTGeo @Matthuber78 @jacobin I mean, I did think the wording was too harsh in places, but your critique is substantive (though I still disagree), and that’s what really matters.

@Leigh_Phillips @Matthuber78 @jacobin Glad you didn't find the wording too harsh in places. I think the issue of lifestyles, consumption and 'labour aristocracy', is the next thing I'd like to explore but didn't have space for unfortunately. Anyway, just some notes, happy to read a response

@SmithTGeo @Matthuber78 @jacobin Thanks for taking the time for an extended response, Tom, instead of the online snark we’ve seen that doesn’t engage at all with the arguments. I’ll respond at length later.

Who are some pre-1950 precursors to steady-state economics or degrowth thought? Lewis Mumford and late Marx comes to mind, but are there other folks you can think of?

My next task is to develop a #degrowth industrial policy - very very excited. What books/articles on industrial policy do folks recommend reading, particularly as relating to sustainability?
