Also striking, from outside, is Birmingham’s complete absence from any sort of national cultural relevance: no literature to speak of, no notable music for half a century.
Edinburgh, or Liverpool, or Bristol or Belfast or Newcastle or Glasgow all have specific cultural resonances, but the second city may as well not exist.

@growgardeners Recently moved to northern Spain. The place is teeming with life. In a short period of time have seen incredible things. We have bears and wolves, amazing birds of prey. Everything is either trying to eat you, eat your garden, or eat your house 😆

Spain has 36% tree cover. We have 12%, mostly Sitka Spruce. Cycling in N. Spain is bittersweet. It’s exhilarating to be surrounded by trees & to see the land is teeming with life but depressing to return to barren 🇮🇪 The wildflowers on this bridge would be sprayed back home🙈
