the classic "nice guy" persona is someone who wants to earn love without taking any risks so he commits two fundamental errors: 1. he believes that love can be earned through good behaviour 2. he believes that he can avoid any real emotional vulnerability in its pursuit he enacts a performance of being pleasing & "good", and then is frustrated when it is rejected he's even more frustrated when he sees other men who are NOT performing, who are not striving to be artificially "good", getting the love he craves the nice guy views his own darkness as despicable, and so he tries to hide it. to reveal his darkness feels too vulnerable, as it exposes him to rejection & criticism... and that criticism may very well be warranted, which makes it even worse in short, he's scared of being seen as he is... and thus he tries to prevent that from happening but many women have an intuitive sense for such things. they know the danger of a man who is estranged from his own dark side. they understand how the shadow tends to assert itself all the more suddenly & violently when repressed so very few people are fooled. and the nice guy is faced with a choice: double down on the performance, or give it up and face his own darkness continuing the performance will lead to stasis, stagnation, and further bitterness. at the extreme end, the shadow gets projected outwards, and we get the classic incel archetype "the women are to blame" facing the shadow means the possibility of integration: seeing himself as he is, and allowing others to see him as he is. this is the foundation of the love he craves. it's the path of honesty, vulnerability, and courage through that path, he becomes the kind of man he truly wants to be, a man who is actually safe & strong by virtue of his self-knowledge... who can actually lead through kindness... who can attract authentic love, without the need for performance
