Hello there! I've heard word that some people think I'm dead, but I've been busy working on the Sylveon & Penny animation ever since my last post, which has turned into a grander-scale project. I'm posting this update to give you a general insight in what's going on with me. TLDR AT THE BOTTOM.
As mentioned, I'm still alive and I'm still working on the Sylveon & Penny animation. I post updates of it to Subscribestar twice a month. You don't have to
support me, but if you want to follow my progress more closely, that's always gonna be the most up to date place.
I will, however, try to post more public updates in the future. I've just been quiet because, frankly, my main project hasn't changed much in a long time.
So why is the Sylveon animation taking so long? Well, it's taking long because of scope creep. Instead of planning it all out at the start, I kept adding more and more scenes, and every time I work on a new scene it keeps surprising me just how much effort it takes. I cannot really assess if I'm particularly slow, as far as 2d animators go, or if it's just that the things I really want in the animation take that much time. I will also admit that I haven't always been at my most productive. I've had to recover from burnout several times over the course of the project. It's difficult to stay sane while working for so long on the same giant project, especially with so many expectations from people and self-inflicted perfectionism. I've never done a project this large before, let alone with so many eyes on me. I am not an experienced professional animator; I'm doing what I can with my limited experience, so please keep that in mind before you leave hurtful comments.
So how long will it be until Sylveon is finished? I can't really give an accurate estimate, maybe it's 80% done. I would say most of the scope of the animation is accounted for. The only thing left to do is to finish all the scenes that I've started. How long will that take? I can't answer that without creating potentially wrong expectations, so I will refrain from making a specific time estimate.
Sorry to those who may be disappointed or may have lost interest by now because of how long this takes. Believe me that I'm the one who is most disappointed of all, but it's the reality of 2d animation. It's like playing a JRPG that just keeps going on and on and on. You are always surprised that there's still MORE.
On a positive note, though, thank you to everyone who's patient and understanding with me and the process. I seriously could not keep doing this without you.
