@adrienneivey Might be different than yours. Environment factors, terminal vs maternal every operations different. How many commercial operations know where there calves are fed or the profit/grade their genetics received?

@SmythTyler No one has said they are!! I think you are reading a whole lot more into a simple tweet than what was actually said.

Unpopular opinion: Commercial cattle folk view cattle showing as an expensive hobby, with zero marketing relevance to us.

@adrienneivey I guess when you have an opinion some people may disagree with it, happens at a lot of cattle shows actually. I’ve been there in disagreement but like you’ve stated every operations different and what works for me may not work for you. The pen of replacements I might pick

@adrienneivey And I don’t believe every animal that has had a show halter hung on it’s head is irrelevant to the commercial cattle industry.

@adrienneivey Your cancel culture approach to each response to your tweet is where I would start. It may not be part of your operations “process” but for some of us it is. Does the purebred show cattle industry need to be more relative to commercial producers for sure

@adrienneivey If it’s not part of selection process that’s fine it’s to bad as there is a plethora of great cattle that show cattle that also produce excellent seed stock. Did you show cattle or have kids that showed cattle?

@adrienneivey So do teddy bears, do we do a good job or connecting the dots I believe agribition is getting better at it. Calagary stampede did a great job trying to put producer in a position talk to “consumers”. What examples would you have of another large scale event connecting the two?

@SmythTyler I disagree about cattle shows always connecting rural & urban ppl. School tours at Agribition promote anthropomorphism and in my experience have left kids confused about farming and fluffy cows that appear to be pets. There is opportunity there, but definitely not the only one

@adrienneivey So should we follow the path of our fellow livestock industry’s and have all of our hybrid females bred to terminal males?

@SmythTyler Hold on. I have not ever said that people should not show cattle. This is not a slam. Re-read the tweet please and tell me where the slam is? Showing cattle is not relevant to our seed stock purchasing decisions. That is not good or bad, just reality.

@adrienneivey 3. My wife and I 1st generation producers and heavily invested in show cattle and commercial cattle. We make a selling show supplies, bulls, show calves and yes I work off the farm in an ag business job. There are lots of opportunities in this industry that is a draw to people.

@adrienneivey 1. I grew up in the commercial cattle industry and got introduced into the purebred and show cattle industry, and yes I believe it an industry. It’s unfortunate you being an “agvocate” feel the need to slam another industry that you claim to represent.

Our son Will had his first draw mule deer tag this fall. Opening morning treated him well. Burnt some boot leather but made it count
