A new study using micro-CT imaging to demonstrate a larger cortical osteocyte lacunar volume in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and microvascular disease compared with patients without MVD #openaccess #ASBMR @Snapastian @eth_bone @frost_nielsen ow.ly/IZPF50Q2Ae3

Finally, we show that lacunar volumes are smaller in the compact bone compared to the spongy bone in participants with type 2 diabetes. However, when comparing to published data on healthy individuals it is the opposite indicating a decrease of lacunar volume with T2D

Additionally, the density of these lacunae in the trabecular bone was associated with blood sugar levels in type two diabetes, independently of MVD.
