Along with politics and comics, I'm fascinated by blockchain. Don't worry I'm not trying to shill you into purchasing some crypto, or anything else for that matter. Some people see "blockchain" and immediately run for the hills. I'm specifically interested in the Hive Blockchain - .@hiveblocks The Hive Blockchain actually has some interesting utility, a blockchain is intrinsically a database. The Hive Blockchain is decentralized, hundreds of servers across the world run copies of it - making it substantially hard to shut down. The Hive Blockchain itself is particularly good at storing text. Some blockchains charge transaction fees, or gas fees when interacting with the chain. Not Hive. It uses resource credits, which regenerate every 24-hours, and are derived from the Hive tokens a user has staked on chain. It turns out a decentralized feeless blockchain that is optimized for storing text data, is a great foundation for decentralized social media. Sites like .@peakd .@ecency_official and .@3speaktv have done exactly that. Without a corporate entity, or a foundation, Hive has created the basis for censorship resistant communications that are backed up across the globe. The Hive token itself asks as both an incentive token, and a governance token. Users who have staked Hive vote for the witness servers who make important decisions about the codebase and policies that underpin the Hive Blockchain. When someone creates content on Hive a stakeholder can choose to vote for that content, adding or subtracting value that will be rewarded to the content creator. In the short clip below I one of the new apps on Hive .@SnapieApp built by .@menobass has staked additional Hive today. I then upvoted the post adding approximately $0.085 in value. That vote, temporarily reduces my voting power but doesn't cost me anything. The rewards will be paid via the Hive Rewards Pool, and split between me the "snapie" account. The mechanisms of Hive are intriguing: censorship resistance, decentralized, and the capacity to incentivize interesting content or conversely reduce rewards to question content.

4 billion, not one single gas fee ever paid, I wonder how many other chains are at 4bn and how much their communities paid in fees to fat node miners trying to do too much computation on their layer one…
