@Snark150

In these snarked times, let's celebrate the 150th anniversary of "The Hunting of the Snark". I don’t visit X too often. Snark150 flaps its wings in blue sky.

In ‘The Hunting of the Snark’, is the “Boots”a “maker of Bonnets and Hoods”? See also: Reddit, r/Poetry, Ambiguity in "The Hunting of the Snark" (1876).

The belfry so derided by Lewis Carroll was only visible for a year. It was soon concealed by a far more distinguished stone facade designed by G.F. Bodley.

I've just come across this very funny but little-known work by Lewis Carroll, published in 1873 under the not-very-anonymous pseudonym 'D.C.L.' (Dodgson, Charles Lutwidge - a rearrangement of his real initials).

Eat what you like.
Sesquicentennial Snark@Snark150

@FranManns If the fake is good or better than the real thing, why shouldn‘t I eat it? However, is that necessary? For meatless food I prefer to eat dishes which have a long tradition. I did that for a while in India.

It's a virtue of being able to think laterally.

@FranManns Due to your habit to respond with reposts instead of staying in the thread it can happen that your answer is not related to what you reposted. This is what happened here.

If it is impossible for you to transmit of your science to the public mind, you are overspecialised.
Sesquicentennial Snark@Snark150

@FranManns How do you measure the degree of specialization? At which level is overspecialization reached?

@Snark150 Here's AI ! How MANY SCIENTISTS BELIEVE THE un IPCC POSITION ON ACC? An overwhelming 97% to over 99% of actively publishing climate scientists agree with the core tenets of Anthropogenic Climate Change (ACC) as outlined by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Multiple independent peer-reviewed studies and meta-analyses verify this near-universal

@Calgar42k @FRG2M @GeorgeEWade @mr__quake I also look at that as an engineer who (before my retirement) had a license to handle radioactive materials, but here many sciences are involved. That includes social sciences which explain the behavior of people who deal with nuclear waste with various objectives.

@Calgar42k @GeorgeEWade @mr__quake What's the cost for the management of the nuclear waste? Any links where I can get the numbers (assuming that the waste always will be managed responsibly, that it won't be misused, that it won't be set free in wars etc.).

@FranManns Yes, CO2 is essential to life. So is water. So is lithium. You just don‘t want to have too much or not enough of it. You and I know that.

@FranManns Yes, the quote is correct. It's one of my favorite Snark quotes. The preface of the original "The Hunting of the Snark" (archive.org/details/huntin…) is not on the last pages. x.com/FranManns/stat…

@MatthewTho36273 Politics explained in the Preface to "The Hunting of the Snark" The preface is on the last page. "Then the bowsprit got mixed with the rudder sometimes." The Bellman had it removed once or twice a week to have it revarnished and no one on board could remember which end of the ship it belonged to.
