Indie/AA game Windrose delivers another embarrassment to AAA gaming. They just smashed Marathon's peak record on their 2nd day, with over 89,904 players with no signs of stopping. They didn't have 200M, they didn't have the Gaming Press shilling for them. What they did have was solid gameplay, better pirate battles that Ubisoft could ever deliver, and incredible value for the price. AAA is getting absolutely dominated the past 2 years by smaller, more nimble competition. But all they do is whine about how "nobody buys games anymore and muh economy." No, it's not that gamers have stopped buying games. They just stopped buying AAA games that berate gamers, deliver DEI HR sermons, and offer the same stale formula over and over. What's sad is that there are so many lessons to learn here. Lessons from gamers, voting with their wallets. But AAA remains deaf and prefers to say it's all "hate and chuds." Well I'm sorry, but the chuds are the ones that buy the games, and they are finally getting what they want. Just not from you, AAA.
