The tragic irony of liberal universalism is that it doesn’t even realize it’s a particularist worldview produced by a particular people. There’s a reason this mindset almost exclusively manifested itself in Anglo countries and has never once taken root in places like Nigeria, India, or Saudi Arabia.

We live in the long twilight that exists between sunset and midnight. Liberal democracy continues to exist in form, but has long since died in spirit. We still have elections, the procedural gears of the state keep turning, but there's no consensus behind either of them. Everything is now a weapon for power, including the very words and phrases ("Our Democracy" anyone?) that were once invoked to temper it. Everyone knows the raw essence of politics is returning as the peaceful twin of war in adjudicating power, but no one in any position of real authority can ever say it publicly without breaking the illusion. It's a bizarre thing to watch in real time, because this awkward middle period between the spiritual collapse of a system's ability to command belief and the physical collapse of the system itself can take decades to unfold.

@badrthebard @NormBreaker3 I meant the millionaires who made their money some other way pay the preserve a large fee to get permission to hunt, and this fee is often an important source of revenue for the preserve, often saving more animals from poachers than it allows to die by hunting.
