Absolutely stoked for Callum. If there was ever an indication that NJPW management sees Callum as their next top gaijin heel, this is it. And he absolutely has the tools to do so. However I’m slightly hesitant about this decision. I’m wary about his creative cooling off after he loses to Tsuji. The most important thing will be to sustain his momentum. If we can come out of the Sakura Genesis match feeling like Callum hasn’t quite reached his final form, and we can still anticipate what Callum will be once he’s filled out his potential, then that would be ideal. He can’t feel like a finished product just yet. And that sentiment should be the dominant narrative beat in the Tsuji match. That said, everyone who is downplaying this as some major indictment on NJPW’s youth movement is showing their ass. They are uneducated, sheepish idiots.
