Very silly that US Soccer saved the official roster announcement for after the match week.
The Crew could celebrate their Non American World Cup participant (Moreira with Cape Verde), while saying nothing and building no hype for the USMNT call up on their roster (Max Arfsten)

Didn't even slow him down, Hull is going to record a sack on this play, and if Morris wants to make it to the Prem he's going to need to learn how to give his QB at least 3 seconds of protection.

Bummer for Aidan Morris to not be promoted into the Premier League. He played great in every single playoff game...but his team was never a goalscoring threat.
Curious if he finds his way to a top league regardless after two strong seasons with Middlesbrough.

Bez coming back is a huge get for the Crew, but also for the NWSL expansion and whatever soccer ambition Haslam Sports Group has...which seems to suggest some sort of European investment in the future.

Lovely game from the Crew tonight, with their most shots on target against an MLS squad, and should scored more
Fun to see the aggression in trying to win the the ball back, the willingness to attack. Team still has question marks, but an Open Cup run is something to hold on to!

With Rydstrom’s dismissal, I’ll never get to see what he was doing with the left back in person. The last couple of games he’d periodically invert Cheberko and Moreira into the midfield. I assume it was to further solidify the midfield in transition, but I did t see enough.

I’ve always felt the “mls doesn’t feel pressure” argument hasn’t held water.

Are coaches in MLS starting to get shorter leashes? It’s been a long held belief in this league that clubs won’t have itchy trigger fingers because of league structure. I suppose as clubs start to spend more and more on players, patience will become scarcer in club offices.

@SoccerWithSam He's definitely not a bad player. And he's not what is wrong with the Crew. But I think his agent and social media team are over hyping him. He's an average wide midfielder in the MLS.

I find Arfsten's g+ here somewhat shocking, because he is one of the few players on the Crew really passing the eye test for me.
I honestly feel like he's playing some of the best soccer of his career right now.

Love salary release day and taking a look at the #Crew96 list. Makes for uncomfortable reading. "To have one non-performing DP, Mr. Tall, may be regarded as a misfortune; to have three non-performing DPs looks like carelessness."

I think the argument is less "What if LeBron played soccer" & more "The guy who could have been the best American Soccer player was a 5'8 PG that got crushed by LeBron in high school & is now an accountant"
I view the argument more about accessibility/interest than literal.

@_kody_day Certainly more threatening with a pure 9 like Wes! But still contributing. Misses some opportunities, but I mostly feel like all attackers do. And he has still been creating them regularly!
Half of the goals scored since the Wes injury were an Arfsten goal or assist.

@SoccerWithSam For me, he has been incredibly inconsistent. He's missing way too many 1on1s with the keeper. He isn't shooting from a distance. His assists were looking good when Wes was out there, but now he can't send the ball into anyone.

@carpdundee He was a little slow to start, and has adjusted to his Rydström experimenting with his role a bit. But he has scored or assisted 7 of the last 12 MLS goals scored by the Crew!
Certainly moments he could have done better, but probably true for every attacker. He's offered a lot!

@GuldanSoccer Rossi is a tough one. Good player who has thrived more a second option. Losing Abou Ali hurt him...and Rydstrom using him in the RM roll when Abou Ali was here didn't help either.

The problems with Gazdag's performance are well documented, but Diego Rossi has been a performer in MLS and for #Crew96 before. This team is not getting anything out of him. That has to be top priority.

A bummer for Johnny, who despite some challenges for the national team clear has the talent...and I think a longer camp could have really help translate his game to the USMNT.

@USNTconnoisseur In a pool with more depth and more elite difference makers this would be true.
But Pulisic brings qualities that you need out there that nobody else has. He has the privilege to play through poor form, and hopefully he finds it soon
