My friend applied to 57 jobs. Ghosted 57 times. Not a single call. Then I gave ChatGPT his résumé… 7 replies in 6 days. No fluff. Just better prompts. Here’s exactly what we used: 1. “Act like a senior recruiter hiring for this exact role. Review my résumé against the job description and identify the top 5 reasons I might be rejected before an interview.” → Stop guessing. Find the real blockers. 2. “Rewrite my résumé summary for this position using the language, priorities, and outcomes emphasized in the job description. Keep it under 4 lines.” → Generic summaries get skipped. Relevance gets read. 3. “Rewrite each résumé bullet using this structure: action taken, problem solved, measurable result. Do not invent metrics. Flag where I should add one.” → Responsibilities describe the job. Results sell the candidate. 4. “Identify the strongest transferable skills from my background for this role. Rewrite my experience so the connection is obvious without exaggerating.” → Recruiters should not have to connect the dots. 5. “Extract the most important ATS keywords, tools, skills, and phrases from this job post. Show me which ones are missing from my résumé and where they can be added naturally.” → Match the system without writing for the system. 6. “Audit this résumé for weak language, vague claims, repetition, formatting problems, and anything that makes it difficult to scan in 10 seconds.” → Clean beats clever. Clarity beats design. 7. “Write a short message to the hiring manager that mentions one specific company priority, connects it to my experience, and ends with a low-pressure question.” → Do not ask for a job. Start a relevant conversation. It wasn’t the economy. It was the strategy. Use better prompts. Get better results.

STOP telling ChatGPT "Write like a person" STOP telling ChatGPT "Make it sound real" STOP telling ChatGPT "De-robot this" Lazy prompts = lazy writing. Use these 7 prompts instead: 1. Lived-In Voice "Rewrite this from the perspective of someone who has actually done the work. Replace generic advice with specific observations, real examples, mistakes, tradeoffs, and lessons learned. Keep the tone natural, confident, and conversational without sounding overly polished." 2. Remove the AI Patterns "Rewrite this to eliminate the common patterns that make AI writing obvious. Remove repetitive sentence structures, forced transitions, unnecessary summaries, filler phrases, and over-explaining. Vary the rhythm and sentence length so it feels naturally written." 3. Reveal the Real Thought Process "Rewrite this so the reader can see how a real person thinks through the topic. Include uncertainty, competing options, overlooked details, second thoughts, and the reasoning behind the conclusion. Do not make every idea sound perfectly resolved." 4. Write to One Smart Person "Rewrite this as if you are explaining it to one intelligent friend who values clarity and hates fluff. Use direct language, natural transitions, and a mix of short and longer sentences. Make it easy to follow without oversimplifying it." 5. Add a Strong Point of View "Rewrite this with a clear opinion and a distinct voice. Take a position, explain why it matters, and use confident language. Remove anything that sounds neutral, corporate, overly cautious, or written to please everyone." 6. Ground Every Claim "Rewrite this so every major point feels believable and earned. Replace vague claims with concrete examples, useful context, specific details, realistic scenarios, and practical explanations. Cut any statement that cannot be supported." 7. Give It a Ruthless Editor Pass "Edit this like a top-tier human editor preparing it for publication. Strengthen the opening, improve the flow, tighten the language, remove repetition, and cut anything generic or artificial. Preserve the original meaning while making every sentence earn its place." Save this for later.
