If anyone happens to be looking for a Unity/Unreal modder and 3D generalist with experience in asset and environment/level design, I'm currently looking for more opportunities to improve, diversify my work, and build up a portfolio.

@Stella_Hoshii Might be an idealistic take, but I seen that sentiment back when CGI started getting good, yet a fair few films these days still base their marketing off of "we used real actors and practical effects". So if anything, I wonder if we won't see something of a return to this era.

It sucks. Sucked before they started advertising hardware to encourage it. Will continue to suck when we're back to painting on the cave walls. But let's be fair, as a modder, I built my living on disregarding SteelRaven's artistic intent with Ravenfield, so who am I to judge lol

Folks will play Metal Garden with the colors cranked up. They'll replace Alyx in HL2 with a model based on a pornstar. They'll say your story that involves Bad Thing must be endorsing Bad Thing, and thus so are you. And they'll keep doing it long after the ayy-aye thing ends.

Tangential to Graphics Thing Everyone's On About, but re all this talk of artistic intent: I found in my limited experience as an artist that part of being one is begrudgingly accepting our intent means Fuck All to most folks, and has been the case long before the internet.

I know it's the meme but in all my years I have never been on a flight where people clapped on landing. Does that mean I don't get to be white anymore?

Was a little iffy on an idea I had about flying around a solar system scanning planets before deciding where to land and investigate, all with limited fuel and supplies. The Starship Simulator demo and Voyager 19 have put those doubts to rest as long as it stays short.

Tried out Babbdi a while ago. The Mandaloregaming quote, "I wanna go home, but I am home" springs to mind. Maybe not my home, but it feels way too deliberate to not be the sort of place where someone grew up, or has at least spent a lot of time.

@ItsWoofles But it happens with every edge. This is just the simple controller made with a tutorial, I haven’t even tried to implement vaulting or anything yet.

Trying to put a character controller together. Did I just discover a bug, or a new feature?

I have always understood the value of "Scotty-Factoring", but nowhere has it come in clutch more than game-related work. Think something will take you a couple days? You say, "I should be able to finish that in a week". Except here, that's often a more accurate estimate.

Major work priority I need to get around to is a proper portfolio and pricing sheet, but I think having something interactive to show for it (besides Ravenfield mods) may be in order.

On the one hand, I really need to square my finances away. On the other, the rest of the SteelFront team has been radio silent for a concerningly long time, and I figure if there's a chance for me to get properly cracking on my game / "interactive diorama" ideas, this is it.

Last communication I've had with the team after we quietly passed our most recent deadline was someone saying we need more playtest results before we can hit Go on Early Access. That was going on 2 weeks ago now. SF isn't my baby or anything, but I'm still worried.

@CharlesO28759 fr tho. Like when we tried getting into UEFN, we tried playing Fortnite together and everyone else seemed like they were having a blast while I just felt kinda nauseous the whole time.

This prolly makes me a tourist, but the original Patlabor series didn't really click for me compared to the Mamoru Oshii movies. Maybe that's just me being a normie, or maybe I just hate fun and need my dour, moody stuff, iunno.

Kinda like GitS. Only entries in that franchise I seen depict the Major as a more serious character, and I kinda have a hard time imagining her with the sorta personality she had in the original manga.

@Z7000k I had indeed seen that tutorial! Although I usually just paint my trim sheets in krita or smth. I think for me it's mainly just building good habits with UVs in particular, practicing without letting the geometry side run away from me.

This is something that's always given me so much trouble. I always like to model so much detail, but then the time comes to unwrap and paint it all and I just become a monkey looking up at a monolith. Anyone know some good techniques to practice here?
