@ghaywan Thank you for this making this film! Watching it is such an eye opening experience for people even like me who consider them well versed with struggles of marginalized ppl.
English

Thank you @madversity ! Happy that the film resonated with you 😊.
IRL, crueler things have happened to the actual people. Mohammed Saiyub left for Dubai and did not take up education as shown in the film— again a privilege not many of us recognise. Amrit’s rotting body was allowed to travel after 3 days only when the Covid test came negative.
Even I believe in empathy and hope and that’s why the different ending opposed to real events. But I couldn’t have strayed far away from their lived reality. Would have been a disservice to hundreds of Saiyubs (Shoaib) & Amrits (Chandan) and to the original story by @BasharatPeer . Hope can’t be manufactured to assuage our urban guilt, imho.

I didn't initially have the heart to watch #Homebound. Finally did on Netflix. Movingly made with a fine script and a sense of nuance on caste and religious discrimination and the struggles of the underprivileged..But I don't like negative thinking. Sorry @ghaywan . Wish there was more energetic optimism in the end. Hope is non negotiable.

Several American X accounts have used these images recently to openly put out racist posts targeting Indians.
The person shown in the photo is Mr. Rajendra Panchal, who works as a helper in Maharashtra.
At the age of one, he fell on his face and broke his jaw, which remained fused shut.
Due to financial constraints, his parents could not get him treated.
Growing up with the deformity, he faced taunts about his appearance, which made him withdrawn and introverted.
For 38 years, he survived only on a liquid diet.
In 2017, after 39 years, Dr. Garde performed corrective surgery free of cost.
The surgery was successful, enabling Rajendra to eat solid food and speak clearly for the first time.
For the first time in 2017 after nearly four decades he ate solid food.

Canada condemns the killing @AlJazeera journalists in #Gaza. Journalists are civilians — targeting them is unacceptable. We call for full accountability and for the protection of media everywhere. #PressFreedom #NotATarget

My latest piece takes a closer look into the lives of those who are getting death threats that RCMP alleges are coming from agents of government of India. But victims ask what has Canada done to protect its people cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

Tune in to @TheCurrentCBC at 9 to listen to a detailed documentary about extortions targeting South Asian community in Canada. It’s a story I hv been following for months, talking to people impacted by this & to those who observed from sidelines. You don’t want to miss this!
English

@tablesgonnaturn My tweet is not about who attacked who. All sides are guilty to some extent IMHO. That’s why I say ‘entire Indian diaspora’. Hopefully that clears it up for you!
English

@Sohrab_S I think I understand the context. What I'm trying to understand is why you think the diaspora should be "ashamed?" What did they do wrong? Was it the diaspora that attacked the peaceful crowd at the temple?
English

@Sohrab_S Do you mind elaborating on your thoughts, Sohrab. Why should the diaspora be ashamed?
Thanks
English

@RishiKNagar Glad to know you are are safe and recovering well. Unfortunately journalists too often become target of such attacks, even in civilized societies like Canada. High time law enforcement takes this assault seriously and catches the perpetrators soonest.
