sukuna is capable of understanding love, or at the very least recognizing it for what it is. he never came across as emotionally ignorant, but rather as someone who consciously rejects attachment because it threatens the kind of existence he chose for himself.
that is why the reveal of the faceless woman feels so interesting to me. i like the idea that there may have been someone he genuinely admired or even cared for, but instead of allowing himself to explore those feelings, he deliberately suppressed and distanced himself from them.
ignoring attachment can feel easier than confronting what it demands from you. so to me, that woman being memorable enough to still appear symbolically suggests she may have had a far greater impact on him than he would ever willingly admit. who she was is genuinely fascinating to think about.

bc of patriarchy, power is linked to & expressed through sex & sexual domination. a peeping tom, even if they’re watching non-sexual things, is a pervert because they are violating/stealing the person’s privacy/humanity. ‘the male gaze’ comes from film analysis, a visual medium

being invasive, voyeurism is inherently perverted and so, naturally, any visual medium is similarly voyeuristic. exploring the concept of voyeurism was especially common for the impressionists, like henri lautrec & edgar degas and even with expressionists like egon schiele.

this man understood women. wow. she’s not even sexualized as she’s naked, she’s just existing as most of us do: random fondling of body parts, weird pose, stomach rolls and a messy environment. he does not attempt to make her this sexualized ideal like so much other nude art does

this stance is extremely valid and even gyaru culture (which rebellious against traditional and patriarchal japanese beauty and gender standards) was commercialized and turned into hyper-glamorous and hyper-sexualized looks for male gaze pretty recently

You can see her bald coochie, but not her face. She’s cupping her boob. She has one long sock on, that appears to be rolled down as if she’s about to take it off. And stomach rolls were widely considered to be sexually attractive during the time when this was painted.
