On June 17th, I will be traveling with a group of NYC sex workers to Long Island to attend the sentencing hearing of Rex Heuermann, the Gilgo Beach serial killer who murdered 8 women most of whom were sex workers between 1998 and 2010. Only in recent years was he captured because the police kept classifying the victims in the murder cases under “no humans involved” because they didn’t consider sex workers to be human beings. The cases were sent to the back burner or given little weight for serious investigation. The families of the victims asked the NYC sex worker community to please show up to the hearing in solidarity and to bring visibility. If you are an NYC sex worker and want to come please get in touch we have enough vehicles to transport everyone from our meeting location. I was asked to reach out to spread the word to get as many people as possible to come. Let’s show that there were humans involved because we are indeed human beings despite our occupational status.
