@beIovederen yup! for once I wasn’t even whacking the writers bc it was a good idea to pivot to a better direction for aegon. but it’s absolutely true that being sadistic was a character trait of his in s1 and evidently not from s2 onwards.

@chattyreality you’re 100% right don’t let them silence you. the writers have absolutely walked back a few things they introduced in s1 and it’s pointless to deny it, at the very least ppl should just defend it as an understandable choice to improve on the show and move on

@wokeicent you can see how some (young?) people really struggle with not just GRRM's writing/adaptations, but fiction for adults in general, because they can't engage with a character if they are an Evil Person because of [the worst thing they have done]

@TwasBrillig1 aegon is my favourite character on hotd, and theon is in my top 5 of asoiaf, so while I agree, I think this take should be directed at others not necessarily me 😭

I don't see how it's possible to get much out of asoiaf thinking about fiction this way. Aegon's crimes are at most on par with Theon's, but if you finish the Reek Dance chapters and still dismiss him as an evil man who got what was coming, I think that's a failure of empathy

I don’t think you guys understand that aegon watching children fight to the DEATH is sadistic, not just #ididabadthing. and a sadistic nature is not something that’s shown to be in his character since then so yes I do have to question if they regret adding it in the first place.

i think it’s really weird how the whole discourse about helaena’s pregnancy revolves around who the baby daddy is when phia said the baby is sacred for helaena it’s something that only belongs to her

@_hellshee_ whatever ewan and phia think about their characters, the writers clearly don’t seem to share that opinion based on what we’ve been given. I know E&P said they like to throw a bone to their helaemond fans so cool. but it’s not what’s on screen so…talk to the writers about that.

@_hellshee_ why would I be offended? I love the actors & their interpretations but I’m also not going to pretend like something different hasn’t been shown to us on screen. again, it’s not unique to them either. this applies to several underdeveloped relationships in the show.

people think this is about helaemond when it’s about the fact that none of the targtowers are shown to have any kind of special/positive bond in the few interactions they have. if you have to rely on s2 interviews (which were notoriously misleading) you don’t have much of a case.
