70 years ago today! On 4th August 1954 English Electric's P1 S/N WG760 had its maiden flight at Boscombe Down, powered by two non-afterburning Sapphire engines. Within 5 years the refined design emerged as the Lightning F1, now powered by afterburning Avons. Image credit: BAES

6 months on exactly and all of XB259's parts are now in Cumbria following today's arrival of the wings. It's been a challenging & sometimes frustrating move, but now we can start the restoration work. Well done & thank you to everyone involved (we'll do a separate post on that!).

I suppose, after the wings arrive today, we'll have to start planning for our grand XB259 opening event! Who's volunteering for crowd control?

A momentous moment. The last sections of XB259 - the main wing sections - are currently loading up at Fort Paull for transport to our museum. The plan is for them to depart early tomorrow (0500 🤞), so they should be with us late morning (following the 'mostly motorway' route).

Clive’s loaded with the engine nacelles for Blackburn Beverley XB259 and should now be on the road, routing M62, A1, A66, M6, A698.
