The novel follows the life of Sahal, a boy raised in 1970s Somalia whose world is transformed by the collapse of the state, civil war, and exile. Through memory and reflection, the novel explores identity, faith, loss, and the quiet determination of the diaspora. This documentary traces the history and lived experiences of the Somalilander community in Tower Hamlets, beginning with the early Somalilanders who arrived as seamen and soldiers, and continuing through the stories of their children and grandchildren. Directed by Suher Sofi, the film offers a thoughtful look at identity, belonging, and community across generations.
