“So animals can eat other animals but we can’t?” Do non-vegans realize how stupid this argument is?

@Iwritestuff404 @NeonTrees_thfc @ReuelWilliams3 Imagine a saint who donates all his wealth to charity. Now imagine a man who's generally rude to everyone he's around, and always keeps to himself. The first has more moral worth, but it'd still be bad to kill the second person.

@SomethingMoreTh @NeonTrees_thfc @ReuelWilliams3 Abortion ~ there's an exact case where having less moral worth = its fine to kill and is human. Execution: same idea Euthanasia ~ same idea. How many examples you want? I can do this all night

@NeonTrees_thfc @ReuelWilliams3 1. No, some vegans might say that animals may have a right against being killed, but I don't know any that think it's the same thing. 2. It is most certainly not dependent on the torture of factory farmed animals, however.

@SomethingMoreTh @ReuelWilliams3 1. Basically every vegan thinks humans are killing animals is not okay because there is no different than humans killing humans 2. Then we don't have equal moral value then. Humans are above animals and survival of humans requires the death of non-human beings. Thats just truth

@gefiltefishy @morallawwithin But this is doesn't mean anything for the strength of the correlation with intelligence, no? Besides, any scary consequence implied by the initial statement would be true regardless of the strength of the correlation with any other trait, right?

@SomethingMoreTh @morallawwithin Because of how big the difference is between the amount of female and male vegans. The difference being very large indicates strong correlation.

Over time I grow more worried that veganism is mainly just an intelligence thing. It really scares me.

@Iwritestuff404 @NeonTrees_thfc @ReuelWilliams3 In what case? That animals don't have the same moral value as humans? This is obviously not true. Some humans have more moral value than others but it still wouldn't be okay to eat the ones with less moral value.

@Iwritestuff404 @ReuelWilliams3 I don't think they deserve the same rights, I don't know why you think I do. I just think it's immoral to raise them in a factory, torture them, then eat them.

@SomethingMoreTh @ReuelWilliams3 You cannot claim animals deserve the same.rights as humans except when it comes to eating, regardless of necessity. Sorry but thays a masive contradiction and undermines the meager morality of your ideology.

@gefiltefishy @morallawwithin Why would this be a very good point then? This would be true of any trait which correlates with veganism (no matter how strong the correlation) given that men and women are equally intelligent and intelligence is strong correlative trait.

@SomethingMoreTh @morallawwithin I took "veganism is mainly an intelligence thing" to mean that intelligence is the trait which correlates most strongly with veganism rather than that it is the only reason someone would become vegan

@gefiltefishy @morallawwithin Yes, this is indeed evidence that more people not engaging with complex physics questions (EG string theory) is not a matter of intelligence, it is a matter of preferences. Plenty of smart people could be physicists, but they are not for reasons not relating to their intelligence

@NeonTrees_thfc @ReuelWilliams3 1. Basically no vegan thinks animals and people have the same moral. They might say they deserve some rights we afford to humans, however. 2. Even if two beings have the same moral value, that doesn't mean that every action one does is okay for the other to do.

@ReuelWilliams3 Its not stupid at all. Since you believe every sentient being has the same moral value, that means if a tiger eats a buffalo i can eat buffalo because we both have the same moral value. How is it wrong to eat the buffalo for me bur right for tiger if we have same moral value

@waldenpod It seems baffling to me that no is the plurality of votes. It's very obviously evidence for p. Better in some cases than others, but obviously still evidence. What's even the argument for no? That philosophers are worse than random selection? Am I missing a joke here?

@EiratheIntern @_builtin_katie We understand it intuitively. Hurting is bad by its very nature. I think most understand this if they can grasp what pain is.
