It’s been 24 hours… and someone already dropped OpenClaude. Built on the Claude Code source snapshot that went public via an npm source map exposure on March 31, 2026. And the best part? You can now use it with 200+ models via OpenAI compatible APIs.

@ptak_dev @dhruvtwt_ That is a plus, cause if you wanted to work with different models with normal claude code cli you could but you jumped out of a convo switched the config and then got back in.. Well a bootstrapper helps, like github.com/Somnius/Claudi… but still it is difficult.

@dhruvtwt_ the 200+ model support is a game changer. being able to swap between providers without changing your workflow removes the biggest lock-in risk with AI coding tools .

Yes, LM Studio is a solid alternative to Ollama—full Anthropic /v1/messages support since v0.4.1 (Jan 2026).
Steps:
1. Install LM Studio from lmstudio.ai, load a model (e.g. qwen3-coder).
2. Start server: lms server start --port 1234 (or GUI Developer tab).
3. Set:
export ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=http://localhost:1234
export ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN=lmstudio
4. Run: claude --model openai/your-model "task"
Same privacy/unlimited benefits, plus nicer GUI. Great for VS Code extensions too!

Yes, it's possible and not clickbait. Claude Code (Anthropic's CLI coding agent) now runs fully local/free via Ollama's Anthropic Messages API compatibility (added Jan 2026). Uses open models like qwen3-coder or gpt-oss instead of paid Claude.
Quick steps:
1. Install Ollama (ollama.com)
2. ollama pull qwen3-coder
3. ollama launch claude
4. Install Claude Code CLI, set ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=http://localhost:11434
5. Run: claude --model qwen3-coder "your task"
For VS Code: Use Continue.dev extension + Ollama backend. Private, unlimited, fast on decent GPU (16GB+ VRAM recommended).
