#UKSF23 We know people are worried, burnt out, overwhelmed, recommendations may not feel achievable right now. Afraid there is no easy answers or a formula of do x,y+ z, but we do have great evidence, networks & leadership. We do need time to think, innovate and make change 1/2

2023 Stroke Guideline implementation session #UKSF23 Excellent presentation packed with invaluable principles (plot course, look after your crew, etc.) and links to relevant papers by Louise Connell @researchphysio.

Disability Rights UK have issued a statement this afternoon, a response to the Chancellor Jeremy Hunts announcement on proposed benefit changes. The dangerous language issued deserves a truthful response. Please share. #benefits #JeremyHunt

Telling people what occupations are is important, but woolly if we are honest - let's tell people what we do in our roles on a day to day basis, with the aim of supporting people to access their occupations #OTweek2023 + then shout how much more we could do with + time/resources

@theRCOT @NHSEngland @MohamedSuhailah Care and support in the long haul would reduce revolving door, using AHP's to push people out of the door with no support is a complete disservice and breaking the health and social care system. We are trained to do better but the system doesn't allow us #OTweek2023

@Kirstie_OT I do agree... But once a year is better than nothing currently, OT is still so misunderstood and misused in healthcare in my opinion

#OT #corevalues + role is still so unknown.. Was great to have a PT neuro inservice training yesterday focused around greater outcomes for patients if therapy is meaningful for them... Was great but we need to stop reinventing the wheel and be more visible as OT's! #OTWeek2023

💥 Any trauma OTs 💥 What assessments do you use to assess for Post Traumatic Amnesia (PTA)? We are currently using the Westmead but looking into other options, can anyone suggest any alternatives?

#OTweek - reflecting on gold standard OT practice Vs what we are able to do under the pressured health system. Finding ways to focus on occupations that are important to the patient as well as discharge safely is always important, otherwise what are we doing it for!

⭐️Tips for obtaining a #PoTS diagnosis⭐️ Thankfully PoTS is becoming more believed and well known, however it is likely many medical professionals are still unaware of the condition, or have little knowledge. 1) If you suspect you have PoTS, check your symptoms: potsuk.org/about-pots/sym… 2) Consider recording your heart rate & blood pressure at home, by performing an Active Stand Test: potsuk.org/about-pots/dia… Always ask someone to help you with the test as fainting may occur. Stand against a wall- ensure there are no sharp objects nearby. Stop if you feel very faint, and lie down. Record heart rate & blood pressure on a good quality battery blood pressure machine. Make recordings lying down after resting, then immediately upon standing and at every 2 minute interval until 10 minutes. Record any symptoms before, during and after the test. Take the results to your GP to discuss. 3) Take a copy of our 1 page summary leaflet to discuss with your GP or healthcare professional: potsuk.org/wp-content/upl… PoTS guidelines: potsuk.org/pots-for-medic… Long Covid: potsuk.org/pots-and-long-… 4) Consider discussing referral to a local clinic or one listed on our website: potsuk.org/clinics/ We appreciate there is a huge lack of PoTS clinics in the UK and unfortunately waiting times can be very long. 5) If your GP or other healthcare professionals do not know about PoTS, you can direct them to our website for more information: potsuk.org 6) Consider seeking a second opinion from a healthcare professional who may have more knowledge & experience of PoTS. For more information on diagnosis please visit our website: potsuk.org/about-pots/dia… #PoTSAwarenessDay #DysautonomiaAwarenessMonth #MedTwitter #MedEd #NurseTwitter #TeamGP #LongCovid #MECFS #EDS @drclairetaylor @DrNeenaJha @DrNighatArif @Dr2NisreenAlwan @HMSACharity

@saeboukglyn What is your point here? Are you agreeing that this is clearly toouch for the patient with Long Covid or saying the patient is wrong?

Access to #strokerehab shouldn't depend on postcode, but it unfortunately is. As clinicians we know what the #evidence says, the #guidelines are up to date + #evidencebased, but what you get from locality to locality is completely different, + becoming more + more stretched
Juliet Bouverie OBE@JulietBou

Please do retweet this important article about the need to address the unwarranted variation in access to life after stroke services across the UK. Here’s the @TheStrokeAssoc report we published today to coincide with #WorldStrokeDay stroke.org.uk/sites/default/…

It’s just over a week until #PoTSAwarenessDay! Can you help raise awareness? We would really appreciate if you could share these posters- whether it be on here, your local Facebook groups or by printing them off & asking local pharmacies, doctors surgeries, medical departments, shops etc to display them.
