Florida's new so-called "sound money" bill is a disaster. The point is simple: transactional gold technologies were already legal in Florida before HB 1311. Companies were already free to build gold-backed payment systems and compete without the state creating a new regulatory framework. What this bill did was different. It expanded the state's Money Services Business regime into the precious metals industry, subjecting dealers, depositories, and other businesses to licensing and compliance requirements that didn't previously apply. That's an expansion of government authority, not a reduction. The sound money movement has always been rooted in first principles: remove taxes, remove barriers, protect privacy, and let people freely choose constitutional money. If someone wants to build digital payment rails, great. The market should decide whether they succeed. They don't need the state to designate favored vendors or create a new regulatory regime around gold and silver. Innovation and limited government are not mutually exclusive. The best innovation happens when government gets out of the way.

Hours before the sales tax exemption on gold, silver, and platinum bullion and coins was set to expire, Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed a budget bill extending the exemption through 2028. Including VA, 45 states have enacted a sales tax exemption for precious metal purchases.

Federal lawmakers have filed to amend the SILVER Act into the 2027 NDAA, magnifying the concern on critical mineral supply chains, market liquidity, and national security. Our own @JpCortez27 spoke with @DanielaCambone to discuss the history and pertinence of the SILVER Act.

U.S. senators have filed an amendment to the NDAA, targeting dangerous gold market concentration. The SILVER Act seeks to broaden eligibility of exchange listed depositories beyond NYC. The Act takes aim at this anti-competitive market while highlighting huge NatSec risks.

Current rules only allow regulated futures market precious metals depositories within a small area around NYC. That's crazy and creates huge vulnerabilities for markets, supply chains, and national security. More than 40 PM industry actors have joined to support the SILVER Act.
