Private AI companies are breaking into the top 25 most valuable businesses before they even go public: The largest IPO in the Mag7 was Meta in 2012 at ~$100B. Most went public in the 1990s at ~$10B–$50B. Meanwhile, OpenAI’s most recent round was valued at $800B+. SpaceX during its transaction with xAI was valued at $1.25T. Anthropic’s last round was valued at $300B+. “Private companies are capturing so much value and so much growth while staying private, and that is like nothing we’ve ever seen before.” — Jaimin Rangwalla, CIO of Public Investments at @coatuemgmt

Co-Founder of @coatuemgmt Thomas Laffont [@coatue_thomas] doesn’t believe AI will create mass unemployment: “In the 1970s when ATMs were introduced, there was a famous NYT article saying we’d see a 70% reduction in branch teller jobs.” “What ended up happening from the 1970s through the 2000s was an explosion in bank teller jobs.” “What happened? The ATM brought the cost of branches down by a lot, meaning companies were able to introduce a lot more branches.” “You had fewer employees per branch, but so many more branches—that the overall TAM increased.” “If engineers in the US become so much more productive, maybe you’ll have fewer outsourced engineers in India, as an example.”

.@shaunmmaguire says SpaceX employees are going to build a lot of “positive stuff and quirky things” after the SpaceX IPO: “There’s this meme that wives of tech billionaires go on to do NGOs and fund bad causes—SpaceX will be the literal opposite.” “These people are going to do the most amazing things with their money.” “The people that will make the most money will be the people that were there the longest. The people that have been there for 15+ years—they've had to battle environmental groups and physics.” “These people are naturally frugal. They're also naturally driven by what I consider to be very positive.” “Most people that joined SpaceX over 15 years ago—they did it for the mission. Because they love space, and want to build rockets. They want to work with their hands and want to keep America competitive in the space industry.” “It's self-selected. The people that were there early didn't think it would ever become this big of a company. They didn't do it to get rich. And they got rich very slowly, with very real skills and real experience of how much of the world is designed to take money and do bad things with it.” “This group of people—we're going to see more beautiful travertine sculptures in cities, just for public art.” “I think we're going to see a lot of physical whimsy out of the SpaceX crew.”

Sequoia's @shaunmmaguire on SpaceX's upcoming IPO: "@elonmusk is  still extremely under-appreciated. He only gets 10% of the appreciation he deserves." " I first invested in 2019. Cumulatively, I've invested probably $1.2B. Across all the different funds that position's worth ~$12B today." " Hopefully in the IPO it's worth a lot more than that." " It's just the very, very beginning of the company."

Incoming: The Big Ole Chip Flip CPUs > GPUs @coatuemgmt CIO of Public Investments Jaimin Rangwalla says AI agents could fundamentally reshape compute demand: “Historically CPUs have done something called serial processing, which is like you just give it a set of instructions and it does one by one by one by one. It was very much a 1 CPU : 8 GPUs. It had gone up to 1 CPU : 16 GPUs, which was all of the math & all of the computation happening at the GPUs. But now the ratio is actually moving from 1 CPU : 4 GPUs."

Jaimin Rangwalla, CIO of Public Investments at @coatuemgmt explains the token economy: "A token is the unit of thought by any AI model." "It's a unit of intelligence." "The token economy is really the proliferation of agents and decisions made by AI, and those decisions can actually be quantified in a number of tokens." "It's very different than human intelligence. Jaimin Rangwalla, CIO of Public Investments at Coatue [@coatuemgmt] on what to expect with the upcoming trillion-dollar IPOs: “It's great for the market.” “Let's say SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic are all worth over $1T. They have already catapulted themselves into the top 30 companies in the world in terms of size.” “When they go public, it'll just be investors that didn't have access to it, the retail investor who had to only focus on public stocks, that now gets access to these stocks. I think it's going to be great.”

The nerds are cool now. " Everyone wanted to go meet the Facebook and Google CEOs.  Those were the companies of the 2010s." "Now it's the opposite. You go to one of the banks' conferences, and there's 4,000 people wanting to listen to Jensen speak." "I've been going to GTC since 2016. It was a small hall at the San Jose Convention Center that was half of one building with like 100 people there." Jaimin Rangwalla, CIO of Public Investments at @coatuemgmt
