And Skenes, a 23-year-old who carries himself like a 10-year veteran, can't get past the way Griffin conducts himself as a teenager. "Goes to church every Sunday, doesn't cuss, doesn't do any of that stuff, married at 19," Skenes said. "It's not common, but nothing about him is common. Everything screams uncommon. And if you want to be uncommon, you want to do uncommon things, it starts with thinking uncommon -- and he does that." apple.news/Ah3gO5d6aS42na…

Catchers are built different. I’d need 1-3 business days to get up after trying any of these maneuvers and he’s just ready for the next pitch

One thing @JackHolley22 has never been afraid to do is throw his body in front of a baseball. Black and blue half of the time and more than a few ER visits along the way. At this point I already know I’m meeting my insurance deductible every spring.

permission to fail. Baseball is the most self-esteem defeating sport on the planet. You fail 7 out of 10 times and you're considered elite. Yet young players still equate hits with success. Still tighten up under pressure. Still play scared because they're trying to impress instead of trying to compete. Here's what elite coaches understand: Tension is the enemy. And tension lives where failure isn't allowed. When athletes fear failure, they contract. They play small. They protect themselves instead of competing. The solution isn't more motivation. It's redefining success entirely. Success isn't the hit. It's the quality of the approach. The process. The execution of what you can control—regardless of the outcome. When you give an athlete permission to fail, you give them permission to compete freely. And free competitors are dangerous competitors. @CoachMongero

In my years of managing people I always find myself coming back to this book. Every time I read it I take away something different. If you want someone to thrive you have to understand what reinforces THEM specifically. You can’t manage everyone the same way. What works for one person won’t work for the next. I’ve got people on my team who are driven by the leaderboard. If I show them the numbers and the payout they’re all in. I’ve got others who light up with recognition. I give them a shoutout and a little praise. If they know their work is seen… that’s what fuels them and they thrive. Some of my people need tough love and straight feedback. No fluff. I have others that need more conversation and more encouragement! They need belief poured into them before they really take off. I have learned that my job isn’t to force everyone into one mold but it is to figure out what makes each person tick. Leadership isn’t about lowering the standard but it IS about adjusting my approach to each individual while still keeping the bar high. When you really know your people, you don’t just “manage” them. You help them grow. You help them win. My goal is to bring out the best in each individual on my team.
