My artistic tribute to the true #silversurfer #norrinradd despite the drama surrounding what #disney has done in the upcoming #FantasticFour film, the truth is that they missed a huge opportunity to bring this visually & narratively iconic #marvel hero appropriately to the screen

Biggest thing for me on this: I’ve taught 6 diff grade levels in elementary for 8 years, my own kids are all middle school-high school- NO ONE in that age range is talking about this. In the Infinity War-No Way Home years, all they talked about was superheroes. It’s gone for that group. You hear them talk a bit about Invincible, my own son is really into it & has started collecting those & Absolute Batman, but actual DC movies? Nope. Not one word. That’s bad.

@GeeksGamersCom Time to scrap the MCU. Consider it done at Endgame. No Way Home as an epilogue.

They M-SHE-U’d Peter Parker’s Origin Story "So in our minds, no, he wasn't responsible for Uncle Ben's death. That would have been a different interpretation. A more intense interpretation of the character."

I always think about guys like my Brother in Law: 20 years as a firefighter/EMT in the DFW metro area, great father, husband, & worked his way to Captain. I feel like Superman would be like that. Just a good guy who would help any way he could even if he were “normal” because there’s millions of people who just do good things all day long. So, this obsession w/ what if the most powerful person ever were evil is just… played out. A good man in a world that needs them is so much interesting.

Rewatching the Netflix series w/ my son & I was just telling him how much I enjoy side characters like Ellison from that show. It was so well drawn, you felt like the side characters could have had their own show about their adventures. A whole show of him running the Bulletin & investigating crime would have been incredibly compelling & he was just one small part of that universe.

@ItsKarenPage I know. Can you imagine if some nostalgia weaponizing company had reversed an amazing, cathartic villain defeat that worked on every level. It would be a crime & rightly should be ignored.

@ComicsBulletin_ Not quite a comic, but a superhero book focused on helping kids learn the alphabet through alliterative phrasing & creatively posing the animals: a.co/d/0hmlDETc

@monsterhunter45 Well done! Just put up a children’s book my mom (a fellow educator) & I did together to help kids learn the alphabet after we both noticed my youngest girl struggling after covid. Hope for a 10th of that success.

Top 300 on all of Amazon, is pretty damned for a new book release. Magic & Bullets is #1 in a bunch of New Release categories too. The only things ahead of me in most categories is stuff like Fourth Wing (Romantasy, which is absurdly huge) and Dungeon Crawler Carl (which is a massive hit sensation). So I will take it!

@InsightSee42007 @AuthorGFAllen @StephenKing Yeah, I’ve fallen off on his recent stuff. & he definitely went through a mediocre period. But if I’m working outside or in my garage, a short story collection of his on audio is a great way to spend the time.

I've recently been rewatching the Netflix Daredevil show before Disney's Daredevil: Born Again. There's genuinely no comparison. The Netflix version clears Born Again in basically every category: lighting, choreography, atmosphere, dialogue, characters, even the way scenes were shot. Everything was done with such care, and even in the not-as-good episodes, it shines through. It honestly sucks knowing we'll probably never get another superhero show that reaches that level again. Rewatching it just reminds you how special that run actually was.

On the further character destruction front: Sunspot goes from being a hot head who was always the first into a fight (his first girlfriend was killed by a stray bullet when he was kidnapped in Brazil), who refused a Magneto in Fatal Attractions to being a whiny, spoiled, follower, who signs up for global genocide. They make Cyclops somehow both a whiny cheater & a cuck in the same 5 minutes. & although the same 3 clips get shared around to show how “badass” he is, he cries more than Toby Maguire in Spiderman 3, & gets his ass handed to him by the X-Cutioner. On lore they get wrong: Gambit cannot charge Wolverines skeleton. That would at least severely incapacitate him. There’s a throughaway line about Nightcrawler teleporting the whole team from NY to Scotland. He can only go 2 miles max, has to see where he’s going, & carrying someone is a massive strain, that trip would over 2k jumps for him-one way. Wolverine & the X-Men actually showed how it would work. The Phoenix Force is just a huge Deux Ex Machina that can be turned on and off. And the end w/ Astroid M is a shot for shot rip off of the end of Age of Ultron. There’s more, but I’ll let it that for now.

I’m in that small but vocal minority that absolutely hated season 1, which really is in no way a continuation of the 92 series. The tone was completely different, the characters changed immediately to fit the “modern audience”, & huge plot points are ignored, disregarded, & retconned. ~~~~Break for those jumping in to attack: these are my reasons. Long & thought out. Lifelong X-Men/Marvel/Comics fan. So, yes, I have my arguments nice & detailed. Read on if you want. & if not, cool. I’m used to the eloquent “SYBAU” commentary from standard fans of this show. What made the 92 stores work was that it was Jim Lee’s “magic year” 1991 design aesthetic, but most of the stories & plots were classic Claremont golden era, Proteus, Phoenix Saga, Morlocks, Reavers, Noble Magneto on his path to a more centrist view. That’s what was so magic about the 92 series beyond it being masterfully adapted. This bastardized show had no interest in that. It cut ties w/that era almost immediately & what it did bring in: Magneto’s Trial, Life/Death, Inferno, Nathan’s infection it truncated, twisted & missed the point entirely. The 90’s stories it brought in, Zero Tolerance & Fatal Attractions, it destroyed to put in a modern the “Terrorist has a point” messaging. The Trial of Magneto turned into a Jan 6th allegory w/ human extremists attacking the capital. Magneto then flies the tribunal up into the atmosphere & threatens them w/death of they don’t comply. Magneto grooming a young inexperienced girl into an explicitly sexual relationship. Said girl who is delivered to him in a bikini by the woman she calls “Mama” when she’s only kissed a boy to that point. Turning Captain America into a lame, ineffectual fence sitter, who gets to be called “Americas Top Cop” in Rogues girl boss moment before she throws his shield over a mountain. Rogue turned from one of the most diehard members of the team, who multiple times in the og series refused to give up her powers or her team because she was so committed to helping innocents, into a psychotic Chippy whose down w/wholesale genocide. Magneto being turned into a Granny Goodness looking psycho terrorist who is possibly the worst example of the bizarre & disturbing Disney trope of “terrorist chiche” where the ideology that if you believe you are part of a marginalized or victimized group any violence you carry out or innocents you harm in the process is justified. It was clear this was where they wanted to get to from the beginning: the New X-Men “modern era” which allows them to put in all the new messaging they want. Not tell stories about heroes. But stories where “Magneto was Right.” This by the way, they also got wrong. Morrison wrote that line as an ironic indictment of Magneto being used as any kind of heroic symbol. Specifically, the psycho murdering terrorist version this show has who, in the show would have killed millions with his EMP wave & then is forgiven ( another huge departure from the comics where Xavier shuts his mind down knowing he’s too far gone). What Morrison had to say about that version of Magneto: “What people often forget, of course, is that Magneto, unlike the lovely Sir Ian McKellen, is a mad old terrorist twat. No matter how he justifies his stupid, brutal behaviour, or how anyone else tries to justify it, in the end he’s just an old bastard with daft, old ideas based on violence and coercion. I really wanted to make that clear at this time.” So, this show can play at being “X-Men”: it isn’t. It’s something else. A twisted modern Disney product born of weaponized nostalgia that brings in the “OMGoawsh!” Crowd, but destroys everything the X-Men were about. Which, I really wouldn’t mind as much if the fans of it weren’t so damned obnoxious about it being “accurate”.

Unfortunately, I think you’re right. & the thing is, I’m fine with adaptations changing plots as long as it’s true to the characters. & those fanboys make the mistake of thinking that criticism means we don’t want good versions of it. I want nothing more than a great X-Men cartoon kids can get into the way the 92 series did for a whole generation. Merging Magneto’s redemption arc w/Genosha being decimated would have worked if they had stuck to his redemption but had him destroy Bastion as he did Zaladane in the comics. It could have been a great, “I’m not Xavier/I am that guy.” Kind of moment signaling that he is going to lead differently.

@Southern_Inks @hexfacilitycom Thanks for saying what should be said. Sadly, we have to live with ignorant and impressionable fanboys, and thanks to that we would probably never have a good adaptation of the X-men again. The success of season 1 of this mess of a story was a death sentence.

It’s the same Disney trope over & over again: Falcon & Winter Soldier: maybe the terrorist Blowing up buildings was right all along… The Acolyte: but the psycho murderers & psycho space witches were the REAL victims X-Men 97: The terrorist who murdered millions had a traumatic past, so he’s Right Now DD Burnt Again: Kuckpin is worthy of Forgiveness & we need to UNDERSTAND him It’s all part of this bizarre “Activism/Victim Chiche” Disney peddles in. Basically: if you believe yourself or your group to be victimized any violence you carry out or innocents you harm are only a product of that trauma & you need our collective “understanding”

Really? Okay then I’ve tried to figure out what annoys me so much about these posts, & I think it’s the fake “accuracy” B.S. this awful little cartoon show peddles in. It isn’t. Not in any way. To the old cartoon or the comics. But they slap the right costumes on it & bring back the old voice actors & modern Disney fanatics drool all over it & then piece together little reels that cut out all of the horrible writing & gross inserts from a fired creator. ~~~~Break for those jumping in to attack: these are my reasons. Long & thought out. Lifelong X-Men/Marvel/Comics fan. So, yes, I have my arguments nice & detailed. Read on if you want. & if not, cool.
