I overheard a woman in her 50’s or 60’s arguing with her husband about buying a brand of cocktail sauce. Evidently it was too “hot” for them last time, and the supermarket didn’t have another option. I stuck my nose in and pointed out that cocktail sauce is in essence ketchup mixed with horseradish. I suggested taking the cocktail sauce and mixing in some ketchup to cut the heat. A lightbulb turned on in her head and she thanked me. But I have to wonder - is such a simple thing really non-obvious? It took me all of a millisecond to come up with that solution. I sometimes wonder....
